Title: Removing the Pre-Cat

Hi Chaps,

I have been thinking of doing the pre-cat mod for a while and although I could probably take it to a garage and get it done for a few quid I have had this on my list as something i could potentially do myself to enhance my basic mod skills.

So to people who have done this how hard is it in relation to someone who has only dont things like fit a CAI, new DV, new Stereo's etc

Also the thing I am most nervous about is probably the jacking up of the car. i have 2 jack stands and 2 halford jack which are quite heeavy duty ones and not the asic ones you get with a car

It can be done on axle stands. Never get under the car with the VW jack lol

The hardest part would probably be the downpipe bolts. other than that is pretty straight forward.

You will get a slight burble but still sound stock.

Nice one cheers, I have the RamAir Intake but looking for a more exhaust sound too.

Yeah my presumption was to use axle stands at each side at the front but also use the 2 halford jacks as extra support

there is a video on youtube about 20mins long. the guy is actually replacing the downpipe with an after market one but the same principle applies.

It was well worth doing for me just for the MPG and with axle stands on the front it is not too bad to do (I would suggest having someone with you for help). The top downpipe bolt closest to the engine is a real PITA to get to I found but with a few extensions we managed it.

Cheers, unfortunately it will be a solo job. From the video most looks straight forward but as always I find the hardest part is usually the few bolts that are placed in the most awkward places as in the one you mentioned. Did you have any special tools to get this as I just have a standard ratchet set.

What sort of improvements in mpg are you likely to get from this mod ? I'm getting around 26 mpg atm
