Little help here if possible
So the good news is my car passed MOT this morning no problem but they stuck an advisory on there which is
Nearside outer Front constant velocity joint gaitor deteriorated, but preventing the ingress of dirt.
He mentioned about replacing CV joint/boot but not really got a clue what he meant so looking at what I would need to resolve this and is it a garage job or easy enough DIY
-
Means the cv rubber boot is starting to crack but not leaking grease.Easy job to do if your handy with the spanners
-
Best to get cv boot replaced as soon as possible, otherwise may fail & allow dirt into cv joint requiring new joint. There's a how-to & link to video in thread below:

Looks straightforward enough.
Anyone got a part code for the new CV Boot
-
see part 22 in diagram:

Check that this matches your particular gearbox

Would this one suit my GTI ED30 DSG

Looks like it'll do the trick. :happy2:

Anyone tried replacing CV Boot this way without removing the ball joint so no need for Alignment afterwards?
-
I've had that problem with MKIV golf (since it slotted so would be worth doing his procedure there) but the MKV is a different set up so never worried just go the bottom ball joint route.

Ah okay but does that mean no alignment is needed going the ball joint route on the MKV
-
I've never needed to do the tracking after a cv joint bootie on a MkV but always have had too on a MKIV! :happy2:

The first time i changed a boot it was running fine but went for an alignment anyway and they f*cked it up and had to go back 4 times.
The last two times i changed a boot i did not have an alignment.
