Title: suspension/wheel setups
Post by: The Duke on September 01, 2015, 02:00:15 pm
After some advice please.

I want to change the ride height and firm up the stock suspension I have, I can see a lot of people recommend H&R / Eibach suspension. My question is what offset wheels of around 18" with an 8" wide rim would I need, combined with what suspension would be my best option.

I want the car around 30-40 lower, I want the ride a little stiffer (not too sure about coil-overs), I want an 18x8" that fits under the arch without cutting anything away. Is this possible?

et44 is very popular on here as they sit very nice when lowered on springs

take a look at bbs vz   :happy2:

Heres my GTI on Bilstein B8's and Eibach Sportline springs. Wheels are VW Racing / Team Dynamics 18x8 ET45.

Gives a firm ride, but not too harsh. Didn't have to cut anything away to install them either.

GTI on H&R 30mm springs, standard shocks, and BBS VZ (18x8 et44). Tyres are Michelin Supersport 225 40.

Rides nicely, not noticably firmer than stock. I found it quite firm with standard springs anyway.

Less body roll, turn-in feels good, and very stable. The tyres help a lot, they grip really well.

No rubbing at all, no spigots, spacers or bodging required. They bolt straight on (57.1mm centre bore) and use the same oem radius seat bolts.

Aesthetically, an improvement over the original 7.5 et51 Monzas as they poke by about 13mm more and fatten the stance.

@AJP (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=11926) that looks perfect! Ride height is spot on (not slammed) and I'm liking the BBS wheels

I'm getting me some H&R springs.  :happy2:

I'm glad I got them over coilovers, there's no need to be much lower and at this height it handles all the bumps and dips our crap roads offer us!

I'm very happy with the setup.
