Looks a bit like a polo to me! Really not so sure about the backside!

I like it. Should drive well with the diff.
VW obviously think there's enough of a market to introduce all these closely-pitched cars.
The one I'm looking forward to is the 400bhp R.
-
Looks so good love how the black grill thing continues as a strip down the doors, just not 100% sure on the rear but love the rest. Those seats oh my
-
Want it. Plain and simple.
-
Like the idea of this and will be putting an order in shortly.

Order books open in January. :happy2:

Local VW dealer has my deposit.
No harm in being early

Possibly not what everyone was hoping for, but certainly a great GTI.

This and a TTE450+ turbo set-up would be a great combo I reckon. :innocent:

AFAIK it won't be a limited edition. Just a special edition.

Any more info on these? I was procrastinating from revising for an exam a week on Thursday so I dropped into my VW garage down the road. Was planning on getting an RS3 when I finish my degree (I'm a mature student), but now thinking about one of these instead.
Dealer had literally no information on them!

Its now available to order.

Not sure why there's no thank you button in this part of the forum so have a :happy2:
I drove past a Nardo Grey RS3 in a multi storey today - it just looks so mean! Tough decision. I think once I'm willing to put some notes down I'll have to take them both for an extended test drive.

As great as the RS3 sounds with that 5pot (and looks in Nardo Grey ), it doesn't get great reviews compared to the golf platform, despite the £10k+ premium over the R
-
I imagine that this was something deliberately engineered in by Audi. After all they are exactly the same car on the same MQB chassis. I imagine if I was so inclined it wouldn't be all that difficult to alter the suspension and swing the balance back (though I appreciate you shouldn't have to do that on a car that costs £10k more).
Price is much of a muchness - I reckon the Audi will retain more of its value, so the end result will be almost negligible.
Thing is I'm not going to be driving it as if my hair's on fire so the fact that it's a bit slower on a track is totally irrelevant to me. I think the interior is nicer, and as you say the 5-pot sound. I think it looks better than the Mk7 in general too (no offence to any R owners here but I really dislike the current R's body kit), but the Clubsport swings the balance back towards the Mk7. Plus buckets as an option, which Audi sadly have dropped.
Definitely a first world problem having to choose between the two tho.
-
I'm shocked that the RS3 doesn't have suitable brakes!
I still think the RS3 is the more special car, but the Clubsport is a great car

The only special thing about the RS3 is the 5-pot engine. A well spec'd Clubsport with a stage 2+ or hybrid turbo would be much more special and fun for me to have.

If the club sport has the same turbo as the R (IIRC, it does :happy2:) then a map, downpipe, intake pipe & intercooler will see around 400bhp!
Hybrid will take it to 450bhp

Yes your probably right, I'm sure the tuners will have a cure for the handling. The feeling I get from the various reviews is the RS3 is a bit 'clinical', it's effective at being fast, but lacks character - possibly due to the amount of sound proofing & insulation taking away any rawness.
I'd love a go in an S-Tronic one
For me, I'm not sure the RS3 is any prettier than the R. Photographs never seem to do the 7R justice, they always look better in the metal.
I do love this pic of Wigit's 7R: http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,45294.msg873767.html#msg873767

8 piston calipers not enough??
-
I'm guessing then, given that it matches the power of the latest Cupra on overboost, that the Clubsport has that engine and not the 7R engine, is that right?

The Cupra 280 has a CJXA or a CJXB engine. The Golf 7 R has a CJXC engine. I don't know if the turbo is different between those engines.

With this being 2WD and only 10hp shy of the R, AND looking to be same sort of price bracket
Why you would you get this over the R that is 4WD ...
Just because its special edition?
Personal preference I guess but I would go with the R hands down everytime.

I prefer the way it looks and it'll be more exclusive given that Rs were being given away on cheap lease deals a while ago.
It's also a little more focussed (supposedly). I'd imagine it'll have a very different character. It'll also be cheaper.
And buckets.

Because everyone and his dog has got a MK7 R and thats boring.

Hmm I guess for exclusivity I can see the appeal, but if they aren't being produced in limited numbers, as it's a special edition instead, the exact same thing is going to happen with these anyway surely with everyone getting one.

The only reason there are so many golf Rs out there is becuase they sold them all cheap on lease deals. Hopefully they wont do that with the CS
-
Just checked ETKA and the Clubsport, the Cupra 280, the R and the S3 share the same components (CJXB, CJXC, CJXE and CYFB), so they all have the same tuning potential.
-
ClubSport does look very good and looks to have the same kind of bucket seats as my GTi as well which is another plus.
Its likely to hold value better against the other more common models too. Certainly interesting if it is the same spec engine as the R though and just de-tuned!
-
Looks like prices are available on the new pricelist on the VW website. Buckets aren't standard unfortunately
-
Looking at the prices, they're too high IMO. It might make more sense to get one over the R in places where it rarely rains or if a person prefers the exclusivity of owning one.

I think it'll have a different character to the R - much like the Edition 35 vs the Mk6 R. I still think on balance I'd prefer a Clubsport, and the exclusivity will hopefully mean it holds it value better when the cheap lease Rs start hitting the second hand market.
-
There's something about that exclusivity. Saw an ed35 a few weeks ago. Quite surprised, as they seem mega rare. Looked tidy.
So the Clubsport is essentially an ed40. Certain buyers will lap this up over the R.
-
Some will, I'm sure, but I bet only the more knowledged about Golfs and hot hatchbacks. The R for the random person who looks for a good all-rounder car will be a better option due to the 4 motion capability.
-
The interior with those buckets is beautiful. But again...not standard?!

I think VW are counting on the kind of buyer in the market for one of these (as Shoduchi described) wouldn't think twice about ticking the buckets option.

It's called the Clubsport Edition 40 in the price list

Re-the above
Well I can't find it so can someone post a link to the price and options list please?

VW website. Easy to find.
-
It's front and centre on the Performance Golf section
It's appeared on CarWow as well now. It wasn't there at the weekend. First offer was £0 off lol. I doubt there's much incentive to discount them when they've just been released and people have already been placing deposits on them.

Try 'Drive the Deal' or 'Orange Wheels' - they give better discounts than Car Wow. I can vouch for Orange Wheels, they put me in touch with a dealer that honoured the discount and I took it from there. Just like walking into a dealer and buying a car, but for the sake of a telephone call before, it saved me around 12%

£1 discount lol. They do have good deals on other cars though.
-
So then the dealer I spoke with a week or two ago is claiming that the UK is only getting a limited allocation of the Clubsport.
Doesn't say that on the website or in any of the documentation. Really dislike it when dealers lie to try and make a sale.

I've been getting 13.6 - 13.8% discount this week on Carwow for an R
Not quite so good on the S3 at 12.1%
