Hey, so basically been enjoying stage2+ for a while now but Iv now moved back home and can only get 97ron easily... 99tescos is 15 mile round trip and shell is more ... I know "just fill your tank up" is going to come about but I'd rather not :signLOL:
To that end can I run 97 Ron safely or will I just need to run 99 all time. It's just a pain in arse going all that way just for fuel when I'm barely out of my local town.
Forgot to say Iv always run on 99 tescos or shell vpower

15 mile round trip is a long journey? if you barely do that on a regular basis then surely your engine is being run cold pretty much all the time?

I'm Revo stage2+ all I have ever run is nitro+ 99 Ron Shell.
I'd just drive to the nearest Shell garage no matter what the distance was.
I would do this as the car was mapped running this fuel.

I would have thought if you keep the revs down and nursed the car/engine whilst running on 97 Ron no damage to the engine would be done - but whats the point of having a mapped GTI and driving it like that :signLOL:
But to be honest - 7.5 miles there and 7.5 back is nothing!
If the cost of the fuel is an issue maybe its time to look for another form of transport - as these performance motors dont like being run on a tight budget!

Noooo I'm not saying that it's a long journey just curious if I could use 97 in case I need too. all it means is ill have to fill up instead of putting £30 in at time... More weight :jumping:

Using either 97 or 99 octane fuel will be fine.
The basics of it are the higher the octane fuel, the less fuel is required for a given amount of oxygen, or equally more oxygen can be burnt in a cycle with a given amount of fuel. A key element of higher octane fuel is it is more efficient in the reaction with oxygen, producing less heat in the process. This has the effect of reducing engine "knock", a term given to un-burnt fuel in chambers igniting out of cycle, causing the engine to fire out of sequence and thus reducing efficiency. In short, if you can get 99 RON fuel, I would take the hit and travel, I certainly do myself. I'd rather the extra time and miles of getting 99 RON over using lower RON fuel.

15 mile round trip for me is the same as popping to the next biggest town's supermarket as well. :happy2: But the B road blast in between isn't so bad...

Exactly, always an excuse to use up the remaining fuel........

It's traffic all way as the local gov are building a Bypass... Hour round trip which I did today and it's boring as hell and a pain on my foot (I do miss dsg sometimes :signLOL:)

You can use what ever fuel you like, that's what the knock sensors are for. I've used 95 RON in my mapped ED30 numerous times without issue. All you notice is a slightly less eager top end, that's it.
