Driving the car out of work today and the brake lights were flashing off and on as if I was pushing the brake pedal.
The car started to slow down each time this happened and then would pick up again, all this time my foot was on the gas pedal, never touching the brake one.
At one point I had to stop due to loss of power and start again.
I got it home just about but no dash lights popping up or anything.
Any ideas???

Brake lights are constantly on now since starting the car. Even when just ignition is on. Is there a way of bypassing the brake pedal switch?

You'll need to get a diagnostic done of all control modules and systems to pin point what's gone wrong here.

It's not throwing any dashboard lights, would vagcom etc still pick up the problem?

vagcome should pick it up dash light wouldn't necessarily show up a fault but control modules would

Ok cheers mate, I'll get it plugged it tomorrow if I can. I am lead to believe that it could be the brake switch

Certainly sounds like the brake light switch.. :popcornsoda:

I have just rang the VW specialist I use a lot and they have said the same. They said there is an upgraded one that might fit?
Does anyone know anything about this one?
My car is the 05 DSG but been told they later versions have modified switches?

There were a lot of revisions to equipment in the mk5 Golfs from the early ones to the laters ones so it wouldn't surprise me that this is correct. :happy2:

I have been in touch with VW today. They said that this switch was upgraded but weather it would fit mine or not he was unsure. Am going to take my part in with me today after work and ask to see the upgraded one and see if it's a similar connection

*** PROBLEM SOLVED ***
Cheers for all the help guys, it turned out to be my brake pedal / light switch. Bought an upgraded one from TPS today, £12, jobs a good one! Glad to see the golf back on the road
Once again, cheers lads
