Hi, I'm new to the forum and this is my first thread! I wonder if one of you kind people out there could help me. I'm picking up my gti soon which is fully stock cosmetically and mechanically. I have a few things planned for it, however to cut it short I want to know what is the best or cheapest way to enhance the gear change sound that the dsg than makes on up shift? Will a resonator delete do the trick or would I need a downpipe? I don't want the car to sound too loud, but nice when pressing on and noticeable burps when changing gear. I may also consider going stage one after a little while.. please can someone explain the resonator delete option in more detail?
Thanks in advance guys :)

Welcome to the forum.
First do a pre cat remove and see. there are guides on this site.

Centre resonator delete from the exhaust system is the most popular way to make the dsg fart more audible
-
Hi thanks for replying. So if I delete the resonator and then do they weld a pipe in? I think I'm going to do that first and this would also not be a MOT failure right? Rather than a decat.
Sorry for my ignorance but where about is that located? Again as I said I don't want it to be ricey but abit louder and good up shift noise.
-
Will the sound change if i remove the last rear resonator? More farts?
Writen with my fingers
-
Possibly I think so. Maybe more crackle as well?
-
will not be mot fail and you will get more sound if you remove the rear resonator then the middle resonator. Removing both the middle and rear resonators will be very loud and probably drone like hell.
Removing the cat/precat will result in a failed MOT Id say.
Id start at the middle resonator and they will put a straight pipe in its place. using sleeve clamps means that itll be reversible mod if you dont like it whereas you are stuck if you weld it.

Cat most certainly, but removing the pre-cat should be completely fine and unnoticeable once warm. The outcast is only there for startup, which isn't tested in the UK. Mine passed last week with no pre-cat ☺

Hmm I don't like the idea of it droning, especially as my commute consists of motorway. Yeah I think I'll go for the centre resonator first and get it clamped instead of welded so I can see how it sounds and if I like it. Thanks for the info guys! I don't want to remove the rear resonator it may sound too chavy?
-
How did this work out lads? Am wanting the same as what this topic sounds. Not loud / droning noise but a little bit more of a DSG fart and the less exhaust noise the better haha
-
I've found that switching to V power has made it louder. Or, fold the back seats down. I think it's the perfect volume. If it were any louder it would annoy rear seat passengers with the constant pops.
-
Can never really have too loud or too many dsg farts.......

Same as me. I took out the pre-cat and it did add a little more in the DSG shift pops but not a major amount. I wouldn't actually want to do anything more with the exhaust though as it drives me mad having drone and a lot of noise. It gives better MPG with the pre cat out too.
Keep an eye on the oil too. Mine was using loads on motorway use but seems to of chilled out now.

Does anyone think the powervalve systems stop some of the pops/farts?
-
Why would it stop the dsg sound?
If anything it would make them louder
-
Valve being open, then closed if you aren't on full boost when upshifting
-
It will still be louder than stock, but will be a lot louder if the valves are open. sounds nice
-
I'm just contemplating removing the 200cel for a decat, but I don't see the point if I'm not actually going to gain any more obvious pops/farts. Can anyone confirm this would be the case, running a ko3 with rfd on stage 2+
-
The dsg farts will be a lot louder with a decat lol
When driving normally its will sound similar but when driving hard its louder. check youtube videos to give you an idea
-
I have been trying to listen, but most seem to be ko4's, unsure as to how different the sound is from that to ko3. I love the my powervalve system, but would just like a more 'aggressive' sounding fart if you know what I mean
-
An aftermarket exhaust will make it louder... a decat exhaust even louder still.
Having the DSG box remapped will alter the noise it makes Mine doesnt fart that much, it pops when changing on WOT like a quiet version of a BTCC car.

I am running a powervalve sport system with 200cel cat, currently don't have a dsg map on it, but will be soon (hopefully), I am really just looking for a more aggressive sound on shifting and trying to establish how a ko3 sounds with a powervalve system with a decat

My k03 car with R-Tech Stage 1 and full Powervalve (200 cell cat) makes some lovely dsg farts. And it's manual!
Ok, hear me out...
If you can get the esp to cut in aggressively when you're on boost you get the same effect as the dsg fart sound. Guess it's ignition cut? Never heard it before I got the Powervalve. I very rarely hear it if I'm driving normally, but it can be 'induced' if you really want to.
-
Personally not a particular fan of the DSG fart sound. Nearly go as far to say it sounds dreadful tbh.
But that's just me.

Second this :happy2:
If the cars struggling for traction the ignition cut really makes it sound like a DSG fart (KO4 Stage 2+) :driver:
-
I have BCS r32 system on my KO3 and it has the bigger centre box removed.
Its blooming loud! if you want half decent, decat and no rear box would be sound for farts.
-
Ideally I don't want anymore volume on day to day running, hence i'd rather keep the centre box, plus the valve is on the rear box, so that's staying also! Just curious to know if the cat is reducing the farts, but don't want to fork out for a decat only to find that the farts are much the same!
-
Yes the farts will be loud with a decat over a sports cat. find someone with a decat who is willing to swap and pay you on top. or just buy a decat and sell your sports cat separate.

Even does that for me on my 1.4 gt sport and it sounds great :signLOL:

Little update, changed the front/centre silencer out for the wrc spec/style (straight pipe with out a box) and all is well. Plenty loud and aggressive farts/pops!
Still running the 200cel cat and the powervalve back box
-
What's the sound difference with a sports cat compared with stock cat? I know obviously decat will have a large sound difference but I don't fancy changing each mot.
-
I'd say it's big difference as well. Mine under boost is great, not so much off boost due to the Powervalve system.

You need to be more specific.
If you mean a sports cat & stock cat with a stock catback or not.
Sports cat will sound throatier
-
One thing I can definitely say, is besides the fact that for some reason my car had decided to revert from my 2+ map back to stock, the exhaust is far more noticeable now I've changed the settings back to 2+.
Even a pedal full at 2/2,500 rpm gives a very loud shout from the system which the sport centre section never gave!
-
Thanks guys! Sorry I didn't mention I meant with a bcs cat back. I may look into getting one some time then
