Title: REAR WIPER NOT WORKING
Post by: PM30S on September 15, 2015, 01:53:33 pm
Hi
I bought a eddy with a rear wiper removed.
I sourced a wiper motor and connected it all up.
Since fitment I have never been able to use the rear wiper on its own.
It will work when I spray the front screen with washer fluid and moves about 4 wipes.
However if I push the wiper arm fowwards to enable the rear wipe nothing happens.
I'm getting a tad sick of it. Does anyone know if the rear wiper has its own relay and fuse.
I can't get any washer fluid out on the rear screen either.
Many thanks for the help.

Hi,

The rear wiper may have been deactivated/ coded out using Vag-com by the previous owner. Would be worth checking this if you have access to the equipment or if someone local to you has.

When I removed my wiper I also pulled the fuse but cant remember which one it is, you will find it in the owners manual.

Think I'm missing the relay I've been told it's below the headlight switch.
Does it have a number?

Check the wiring on the left hand side of the boot hatch. Common issue .

Fuse, relay or wiring. Check these.

Fuse, relay or wiring. Check these.
I would but am unsure where the relay is.
Does anyone have a picture of it???
Thanks

When mine did this, it turned out to be the motor, not too hard to change, just go easy with the plastic trim - it needs an odd mix of being delicate and forceful.
Defo. rule out the other methods first though.

Check the four pin connector that plugs into the motor with a multimeter.
There will be three white wires and one brown. Before testing you need to fool the car into thinking the boot is closed or it will not work. Do this by clicking the boot lock inwards twice, your dash screen will tell you if it thinks the boot is open.
The wires are numbered at the connector and you should have the following readings with the wiper switch off:
1- White wire - 12v
2 - White wire - 12v
3 - White wire - 12v
4 - Brown wire - Ground

Then when the switch is on:
1 - 12v
2 - ground
3 - ground
4 - ground

If you are not getting the correct reading on wire 1 then this will be controlled by a fuse in the board next to the steering wheel. It could also be a broken cable.

Wires 2 and 3 are controlled by the two relays. These are located under the steering wheel, accessed by pulling out the folding cubby hole. From memory they have the number 404 on them. They are on top of each other at the bottom right of the relay board.

Wire 4 is a straight forward ground cable.

If your problem is a broken cable it is highly likely to have broken under the rubber conduit as you look at the tailgate from the rear of the car on the left.

Another tip I can give you is that the same relays that control the rear motor also control the windscreen wash motor, if this is working it is not your relays that are causing the problem.

Good info /\

When my rear wiper stopped working, it turned out to be the tailgate wasn't quite shut enough but not open enough to trigger the boot open indicator on the MFD. Giving it a good slam got it working again.  Maybe a dodgy switch or something?
