Title: Single Mass Flywheel with Stage3 clutch
Post by: carmaduk on September 18, 2015, 12:33:12 pm
Hi all,

I recently purchased a nicely modified 05 Golf GTi and have a question of course.

It is said to have a single mass flywheel conversion and stage 3 clutch.

The previous owner said this is the reason that the flywheel rattles on idle when the clutch isn't pressed down.

My question is does anyone else have this done and the noise is normal?

Thanks in advance.

I have this noise (helix clutch & SMF - installed by Alex at AKS) and it doesn't concern me  :happy2:

So normal to sound like the flywheel has gone?

My understanding is that it relates to a little (normal) play in the gearbox bearings, and the noise is no longer absorbed by the DMF.

Hopefully someone with more technical knowledge will give a better response, but my understanding is that yes its normal.

I'm assuming that the noise goes away when you press the clutch?

All gearboxes chatter or make noise
Nature of the beast. Like ducati motorcycles.
Dual mass dampens/removes/absorbs these rattles.
Single mass often doesn't.
Uprated clutches often are not sprung

Easy.
