Title: Anyway to tell if I'm running a remap?
Post by: bingbunny on September 23, 2015, 08:52:30 pm
I noticed today that the little latch to move the vent on the centre dash is missing. Made me think that the previous owner may of had a boost gauge there. The cold feed for the intake is also missing.

I was also driving up the M3 today and had a bit of fun with an A45 Merc. While he was quicker than me, it wasn't by much at all. Like, if I got half a second jump on him, I would keep with him all the way..

Got VCDS?

You could do some tests to check your output:

You don't even need vcds (it's not cheap), get yourself a Bluetooth obd dongle and a app for your phone, some good ones aviablbe for both iPhone and android. They offer virtual gauges and ways to measure engine perameters. The obvious one to look at is boost pressure. Any remap will def be running some level of increased boost.

Sounds interesting. Is it easy to install?

Orrrr... Use an OBD scanner of some sort and read live data of your MAF sensor in G/S, drive full throttle and get max G/S reading and divide by 0.8- gives a rough power estimate and will be good enough to give you an idea.

Where did you get that from!?

Old skool VCDS output to XLS Graph. :happy2:

Just plug it in, and connect via Bluetooth to your phone

Grams per second of air iirc, through the MAF, you can see where it's located in the engine bay to the top left of the Engine Cover with wires going into it (very sensitive component) - in protrudes into the intake air after the Airfilter.

As Gaz says it's: (value MAF g / s) / 0.82 = hp  That's what I used to plot the graph.

Using the other scanners, can you see what boost your're running?  I think standard GTI is around 9-11 PSI, tuned should be nearer 20 iirc.
Sorry for being vague, it's been ages since I messed with it.

Not sure, someone will :)  If its boost is peaking at 11PSI it's almost certainly standard or got a big hole somewhere. :innocent:

What's the DV condition like?

Sounds very much standard to me from what you've said. Boost levels, estimated WHP etc.

I agree, and ~150whp is about ~190 at the crank isn't it? not too far off considering it's an estimation from a cheap tool.
They feel way better after a nice map; the extra torque for daily driving makes the car MUCH nicer to drive.
