Title: Tornado red bumper colour
Post by: Ditto on September 24, 2015, 06:42:02 pm
Hey guys

Wasn't sure where to post this... Has anyone with a tornado red (or otherwise) noticed their bumpers seem to be of a slight different shades of red? Maybe it's an age related thing? For me the rear looks different and doesn't show any signs of a respray. Cheers

Hi Andy. Cheers. Do you mean you noticed some were different when new or as they got older?

It tends to be the plastics such as the bumpers, Boot spoiler, Wing Mirrors and door mouldings that are a slightly different shade of red.

Look at Milano Red Honda Civic Type R's, The Colour match on the bumpers is shocking and thats from the factory!

There have been 13 differnent shades/batches of Tornado red over the years of its production, all with the same paint code. Yeap....i said 13.

When I had my R32 arse painted to match my car the body shop I use stuggled to get it right but in the end they got it VERY close but I can still see the differnece.

Yeah I had the exact same issue, I think it's because I look for it more too but a normal person probably wouldn't notice that much

Strange about the 13 shades. Are they slightly different codes, otherwise it must be a nightmare to ever get a perfect match? I guess not if you had a problem too. Do dealers have a different method via the VIN to get the mix correct? Here's hoping with the wing replacement

^^^^ Paint codes all the same and can be found under boot carpet along with other interesting unrelated info and yeap its a nightmare to match, if you are lucky they will blend it all in across other panels and it won't show (much).

This happens because these parts (bumpers, mirror caps, spoilers, side mouldings etc), whilst body coloured, are not painted in the same factory as the body shells.

Rather, they are supplied to the main assembly factory painted and 'ready to fit' by other manufacturers on a just-in-time basis.

The fact that they are even closely matching is an achievement.
