Ages since I posted any pics of my cars in here. Think my last was my MK4 R32 anyway...
I'm now in a MK5 Edition 30
Not the best spec - highline dash, parking sensors, armrest, sliding cup holder, factory tints, electric folding mirrors with puddle lights and that's it. Here's some pics.
Day I got it nice and shiney
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fbreen78%2FGTI%2F16EE7EAC-1A24-421B-92B9-06B9B8A485B3.jpg&hash=fdbbaacb3ccf66048e2bab6e5f906de4495ffd56)
And when I got it home to Buckie from Glasgow
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fbreen78%2FGTI%2F0455F4D0-C4C2-4AAC-9920-22F4FA3C755E.jpg&hash=d309f02dc326d87a89b77d03910808079ae46cf1)
My first mods - removed GTI badge from boot, black 'VW' and colour coded backing, Alu seat adjuster inserts, and Edition 30 badge for front grille

Ashbignall is your rear emblem 2 piece?

Now that does look good. Don't see many silver ED30's, in fact, I'm not sure I've ever seen one in the flesh!
Very clean - look forward to your progress on this one!

Boring as hell post: So gave my wheel the magic sponge once over today. Was gettin super shiney.
I know this is temporary but takes a couple minutes and the finish is nice and matte.
Wish I'd taken before pics. Never mind.

How did you stick the edition 30 badge to the grill m8
-
How did you stick the edition 30 badge to the grill m8
Just sticks on, bud. It's an OEM bootlid badge.
Just make sure the grille is clean and free from any dressing.
-
A Great example of a Reflex Silver, very very clean looking Edition 30 you have matey... Also great photo skills !
It looks brand new :jumpmove: :jumpmove: :jumpmove:
The changes you made, have made such a big difference , keep up the good work.
What is the "magic sponge" you used to clean your steering wheel?
Mine has started to go shiney and I would be happier getting it looking more matte.
:happy2: Is that a "FAST" on your dash ? :congrats:
-
Was just about to ask the same. Tell me more!!

Thank you! Love the look of your car.
The magic sponge is a flash one I think. Heard them be called erasers too.Just soaks with water, wring it out and Scrub away rinsing out every now and again.
And yeah, it's a 'Fast'!

Not
Can't see why not. The leather in the golf is already plastic coated so wouldn't get the same matte finish.
-
Cheers , Yes have seen them before, just didn't realise they could be used for the steering wheel... :driver:
Have just been told baby wipes could work the same...
-
Wash and dry of the car today.
Tried out Poorboy's White Diamond glaze.
Seems to work ok with silver.
Sealed afterwards with AMSeal.

Not sure to be honest mate I haven't checked yet. I've seen a couple of guides with plastidip and newspaper. If it is two piece will it remove by turning anti-clockwise?

No - the front twists out that way. The rear prises apart if it is two piece.
-
excellent mods and looks better now you have lowered it

Yup - one thing it definately needed.

Snap, same as mine, 5dr Reflex silver eddie :signLOL:
Had mine coming up to 4 years now.
The white magic erasers are also available on ebay for a few pence each, but can be very harsh. I also use them, gently on the interior to remove the shine that appears on the steering wheel and seats etc...
:happy2:

Couple new pics.
LED puddle and plate lights.
Couple random other pics too.
Had these fitted a while now - no errors either.

Looks tidy that mate. Depos are on my to-do list. Oem xenons just seem too much money and messing about.
What bulbs are you using? And how do you find the beam?

Cheers. I'm using Philips Xenon look bulbs. £30 a pair I'm sure they were.
Beam pattern I can't comment on as yet because it's only been driven in daylight.

Wee updates. Bought Porsche oil and coolant caps so fitted them, then a Ramair oversize intake came up cheap so bought that. 90mm diamter compared to the average 75mm apparently. All I know is that it was cheap enough and they get decent reviews so worth a punt.
I'll probably modify and refit my engine cover - TFSI is an ugly lump!

So after fitting my intake I didn't like how the bay was looking so set about cutting down my engine cover to get it back on.
Seperated and thoroughly degreased

Excellent work mate. If and when I get round to fitting an intake I'll come back to this thread for reference.
Very neat and tidy
-
Cheers! Wasn't overly time consuming.
Letting the paint dry between coats and before fitting took the longest.
-
Nice write up
I've had my GTI for nearly 3 years but have always been abit nervous to start a thread, reading this does make me want to start one, only after i change up to an Edition 30 tho! haha
Car looks amazing tho! :happy2:
-
Engine Cover looks great! I done the same with mine, then decided against fitting it! Were did you get the black caps from for coolant and water bottle?

Thanks! Get a thread up. Everyone likes pics!
I had threads for (nearly) all my cars on here.

Erm I'm think I got them from AKS - not 100% tho'.

What you you think of the Intake ? Is it just on a standard map? Noisey? Loss of Torque?
-

Yeah seems good. Still standard map on mine. Definately wouldn't say I've lost torque!

So today I decided to colour code my centre console trim as I'd some reflex left over.
Primed (had 2 coats)
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fzz105%2Fbreen78%2F80C3BF1A-8A81-44F9-9C81-0A09413657BC.jpg&hash=8c23996e020f2582945d732eab8b4da5c779ec37)
First coat of Reflex (3 in total)
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fzz105%2Fbreen78%2FFF44FAC9-2118-483C-BDFD-6EEA2819CAFD.jpg&hash=f9e29a380b0f0e962d93c5b312eca9c30dd1b171)
And fitted back together
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fzz105%2Fbreen78%2FD9A16DF2-4302-4592-AF96-314F47137B73.jpg&hash=81d2ad3a9e98a649b5794d224d6ce10a1647de8e)
Was a little dubious as to how it'd look but I think it looks good. Not too in your face.
-
Is the reflex silver to match the car or is it the same colour as the trim in the cabin?
Been thinking about doing it myself.

Is it a close match to the silver trim around the dash?

The trim is 'brushed' looking so not too close.

More little tweaks.
Colour coded the grab handles.
Excuse the slightly dirty interior.

On another note my interior lights keep blowing the fuse. Soon as I offer up a new one and it makes contact it goes!
Guessing I've a bad LED?
So I'll remove and refit all original lights then if they work I'll put in one LED at a time and see how that pans out.

Been a while without any updates.
Still haven't got to the bottom of the 'bearing' noise - just been advised to leave it and see if it worsens to make a diagnosis easier.
However developed a misfire the other day - at anything close to WOT the CEL flashed and got a horrendous vibration through the wheels.
Figured it'd be one of the coilpacks as they're fairly common to go on these.
So ordered up R8 coils and NGK Iridium IX plugs.
Straightforward job - was stuck for a minute as the socket I had wouldn't keep a hold of the old plugs.
Scratched my head for a while then decided to use the old coils to grab a hold of them - worked spot on.
Turns out all the coils bar one looked brand new. Plugs looked a little worse for wear. On near 83k miles now so prob well overdue a change.
Anyway - some pics.
Excuse the filthy bay - had no time as rain was on and off like a hoors drawers.

Latest wee mod. De-wipered the rear.
Had a CNC glass bung sitting for years and never put it to use.
Wiper was a pain in the arse to get off as was the boot trim.
Tidies up the rear. Applied 3 coats of AMRain as per instruction (horizontal, vertical and circular) so hopefully does the job.
Some pictures

Cheap mod I added the last day. A4 slip on exhaust tips. Seen a few use these Users on here use them. Thought was worth a punt at £17
My tips weren't too bad but they did have some pitting that just wouldn't budge. These are a nice, easy and cheap solution.

I actually can't remember the height off the top of my head.
It's between 30mm and 20mm tho I think - for GTI anyway.

liking the work on the grab handles, sitting well on the springs aswell.

Got round to picking up my revision R PCV Valve from Hawco, fitted it this morning.
My car still had the original that came with the car. Was fairly manky. Gasket looked good. I'd bought one anyway.

New and old - actually quite a difference in design

And pic of it fitted before my engine cover went back on.

Took the car out a drive afterwards. Noticeable difference. Especially nearing full throttle and in higher gears.
Can only guess I was losing some pressure on the old one.

Nice & clean ride :happy2:
Like the pictures you took of it

Nice mate  best colour

Thanks!

I was thinking about changing my PCV but then when I looked I noticed I had the latest revision, not sure I will bother now unless I get some major symptoms.

If you're on the latest revision then I'd not bother - especially if you've no symptoms of failure.
-
Silver dash insert and grab handles look great. Makes the interior a lot less bland and look MUCH cleaner.

Cheap mod I added the last day. A4 slip on exhaust tips. Seen a few use these Users on here use them. Thought was worth a punt at £17
My tips weren't too bad but they did have some pitting that just wouldn't budge. These are a nice, easy and cheap solution.

Nothing exciting to report.
Just had a service. Only covered around 5k since last. It's it's been a year though.
Quick snap before I picked it up.

Good ol' eBay. Was around £80 for mirrors and £60 for pillar covers if I remember correctly.

If I were to change the colour I'd go the same colour as my wheels.
-
Keeping this up to date. MOT was due and knew the fronts needed replacing. Bought Uniroyal Rainsport 3s - so much grippier than the budgets they replaced - in wet or dry.
Should have changed them before the needed replaced.
Passed it's MOT with the only advisory being one of the rest tyres bejng slightly worn on the inside edge.
Happy with that.
Gave it a quick wash today - was filthy. Though silver does hide it well.

That's all. Lately been considering removing my intake - getting tired of the noise! I must be getting old.
Will see if can be arsed at any point in this cold.
-
Lovely car you've got there, I have always liked the look of your pictures, The silver eddy looks great !
I removed my revo intake within 2 months of buying the car because the sound drove me mad. I used to love the whoosh noise on my first eddy but now I think it just sounds crap. Oem intake is best in my opinion
Keep up the great work :happy2:

I've ran a Twintake on an other GTI I had and didn't mind the noise.
That's a few year ago now tho'. Haha!

Colour coded the grab handles.

On another note my interior lights keep blowing the fuse. Soon as I offer up a new one and it makes contact it goes!
Guessing I've a bad LED?
So I'll remove and refit all original lights then if they work I'll put in one LED at a time and see how that pans out.
How do you remove the grab handles? just trim tool and pry? thinking about wrapping them in alcantara

MOT's due when I'm home again, and it's just taxed.
Always something.
Really nice example, almost exactly same as mine. My pillars are starting to age a bit as well so looking at pillar covers, would love to see them in the flesh as dont want them to look too cheap and chavvy as I'm an old giffer
( not saying yours look cheap or chavvy....I'll get me coat ) what do you recommend for polishing a reflex car? I'm new to it and want to try a bit of detailing myself.

Thanks! I'm near 40 myself so no youngster. Haha.
I recommend the covers - relatively cheap solution.
I use Poorboys white diamond the AMGlaze then use AMSeal afterwards.
All really easy to use - I've not got a machine polisher.
Thanks, my mate used to use the Poorboys black on his Ed 30 so that's another recommendation
You don't have a link or eBay number or seller ID for the covers do you mate, want as quality as possible and yours look sweet as.

Cheers mate, as they are coming from Taiwan did you get hit for import duty?
I bought a rcd510 from Ali express in China and got stung £29 on a £80 stereo, 4 weeks after the bloody thing was delivered by TNT
