Hope I have done that right !
If I have and you can see the photo then wheel that was delivered today is sat on the garage floor next to it is my original airbag my airbag I quite round on the top edge the one for the wheel is more like a mo 5 sort of curved if that makes any sense

That air bag is for the sports flat bottomed steering wheel,  the steering wheel you have is the standard wheel which needs the standard airbag

Here are the 2 different wheels and bags

I take it your wheel looks a bit like this

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2FSI-R32%2FMobile_Uploads%2FScreenshot_2015-10-14-22-53-04_zpsxlgs7i0v.png&hash=c240bf96d5348e68b5ef5f342a94a0c5fbed856e)

Which is a kinda sports wheel,  your newly delivered wheel is the basic mk6 wheel sadly has different bag.  Do you have mk5

Well the wheel you  have isn't right then,  you'll either need another wheel or send your one back

I only found out a few years back as I tried to swap my airbag with a newer one on a hire car and realised they were different

Do you think I am better trying to find the right airbag for one of the wheels I have bought
Try to return both wheels and look for one complete
Or as my airbag is the same a a golf gtd trying to sell my airbag then buy a complete one
They seem more difficult to find complete?
