Title: Pioneer AVIC-F77DAB - Reversing Camera
Post by: brinks787 on October 22, 2015, 08:56:04 pm
Hi,

I've been a very luck boy and finally managed to save enough to replace my Chinese double DIN android head unit with an AVIC-F77DAB.

It's due for delivery and I'm very excited but I'm just musing people thoughts on reversing cameras.

I bought one from eBay for the current head unit but never got around to fitting it, one of those that you swap out with one of the numberplate light fittings.

Now I'm getting a premium head unit, I'm looking to see if anyone has found one of these cameras that works well and actually lasts more than a year without dying.  Ideally I'd love to have the Mk6 boot handle camera installed but I'd need to have it done for me and I don't know anywhere that does that mod.

Does anyone who has a camera actually use it?  I have the rear parking sensors and they're a great option on the car and come in really handy but I'm wondering if I fitted a camera would it just be a novelty for a while before I don't look at it?

Anyway, here's the one I'm getting

Its the big brother of the F70 with the capacitive touch screen, gold plated RCA's etc...  can't wait.  My Chinese unit has done me proud but the built in mic has always been rubbish rendering the hands free call useless, the bluetooth audio streaming buffer fills up every 20 mins so you get a gap while it empties and worse of all using the sat nav has always muted any music playing all the time.  To add to that it has the common issue with the Veyron head units - poor FM reception.

I'm hoping finally after 18months I can enjoy crystal clear DAB radio, Apple Carplay, a useable sat nav system and a lovely responsive touch screen.  I'm also hoping for a fast boot time as my current unit takes 30 secs or so to initialise.

Anyone got one or the F70?  Lastly, any idea where's best to install the DAB antenna - it's the stick on windscreen style I'm going for.

Any comments welcome, I'll post up some pics and a review when its in.

Well, it's in and I'm chuffed to bits with it.  I've talked myself out of the reversing camera - too much hassle.

The DAB is crystal clear and was easy to install, even the FM is now strong and clear.  Navigation system is great and with carplay too I can use the Apple maps if I choose.

All I need now is the canbus adaptor to get the steering controls working and it'll be perfect (Pioneer should really include one for what they charge).

Here's some pics  :happy2:

Thanks maxitrol, I've re-hosted them on Flickr so hopefully they'll work now.

Really am pleased with this unit after spending a bit of time driving with it today  :happy2:
