I have just had my running lights enabled in my depo xenon look headlights and just read that they burn out is this true as if the case will turn them back off
-
No?
Because if it's set up properly it'll only be the indicators....

Set up properly.
-
Then you'll be fine.
Only issue is if you run the HEADLIGHTS at a reduced %.
This burns out the bulb/ballast.
-
Sorry I mean set up properly? Lol. I brought the lights off a member off here and just put them in my car all I know about them is they have a 5000k hid kit and now running the us running lights
-
I said quite clearly.
"US running lights" meaning the indicators are on with the side lights or dipped beam?
-
I have them running with sidelights and obviously when the main beam on. Just read that it can burn the indicator bulb holder out and wires too
-
No? Never heard that ever.
Its like a 10w bulb. Running at a % of that...
-
Right i see. Its just there are a set on here for sale same as mine depo brand and said as he been running the running lights has burnt out the holders
-
As with any bulb it will get hot, even running at a % of full brightness, perhaps these depo units aren't designed to have a constant hot bulb in the indicator holder? The oem units are designed for this as this is a requirement on US cars so will be enabled to work out there.

Im in 2 minds what to do now as i dont really want them burning out may have to just turn them off to stop any un wanted problems
-
Had them activated in my hella xenon look headlights for years never had a problem and never changed the bulbs, I also use Amber sidelights to match them

I wonder if the depo ones are not as good quality as the hella ones and maybe thats the problem.
-
I had depo's with US drl from the indicators for over 2 years. Sold the car, but it still has them. Never had a problem

That's a good enough answer for me then I will just how it goes. Did you have yours coded for xenon without shutters I just see that this has to be done when using these lights, I ain't coded mine

Your point is what
-
Because you're worrying about a non-existant problem.
-
Only because somone is selling the same set of loghts i have but they have burnt out because of running the running lights
-
Bit harsh ^^
Hi bud just got one of my projector lights just ordering another .
What lights are you running in the headlights?
Im after replacing all the lights on the front on my car including the side lights so i can do the US spec mod
cheers
-
There running 5000k hid h7 bulbs. Matched with philips extreme 130% h7 high beam.
-
I think what the OP is talking about is running the indicators at 100% brightness. I have heard that this can cause damage to the holders due to excessive heat. The indicator is not designed to be on all of the time. It will have a duty cycle of approx 50% (flashing) under the normal design intent.
If it helps I used to run my indicators at about 20% as US style DRL's. This was mostly because 100% looks crap and irritates other road users.
I think this is about 20%:

I believe mine are around 40% may be abit lower. I dont know if it coincidence but came out today and battery was dead its been fine up untill i put these new lights in lol
-
Headlights would not effect the battery.
I never do more than 30% and even that's a bit high IMO.
If you run them at 100% you have bigger problems than bulb holders lol. You'll cause a crash!
-
I'm at only something like 12%

What would be interesting to know is if there are any American owners on here with vcds that could tell us what the oem % is from factory, then you could gauge an idea of the oem set up

I have no idea tbh. It was xjay that did mine @ 30% brightness.
