Title: GTI Downpipe or Cat-Back?
Post by: Lavo84 on November 06, 2015, 10:39:09 am
Good morning all!
I've had my MK5 GTI for about 6 months now and am starting to feel the urge to get a bit more out of it.
The question I have is should I replace the Downpipe with an aftermarket one and 200 cell sports cat mated to the standard exhaust or should I leave that and just buy a cat back system? Ideally I would get a full system but funds will only allow for one or the other as I also want to get a map.
Cheers in advance! Stu

Personally I would go cat back and then smash out the pre cat from the down pipe and get a remap. Where will prob be an exhaust guru along shortly to assist you but that's my opinion..

Welcome btw  :happy2:

It all depends what you're after...

If you want some more noise and you're not too bothered about power then a Cat-Back would be the best option. As mentioned above, you could also have the pre-cat removed in the OEM downpipe along with this.

However if you want power, then a 3" downpipe with sports cat or decat is what you will need but you wont have as much noise as what you may be looking for if thats what you're after :happy2:

Cheers guys  :drinking:

For me I reckon the 3" Downpipe and sports car is the one  :happy2: I mean I do love noise .... Who doesn't?! But power is my main game at the moment haha

I feel a build thread coming.....

Downpipe, sports cat and map. Sorted.

You'll need a map to clear the engine light that swapping the cat brings up anyway.
