I'm in the position of needing to have two cars, one for the wife and one for me, my plan is to buy a cheap practical diesel for the wife and just have a silly fun runabout for me as its only a 10 mile round trip for work each day. So fuel consumption doesn't matter, the coolness factor is the biggest thing to me.
My question to you guys is, if youse had 6 grand to spend on a car what would you buy?

E30 325i, E36 m3, s14a, mk4 r32, or rx8 for a disposable motor.
-
Seems bmw's are the main thing folk would buy, don't know why but bwm's have never really done anything for me, the r32 is my fav suggestion so far although iv always wanted the mk5 sondont know if I would always feel I had let myself down haha

Kharman Ghia ? Won't be that good , but fits the cool requirement ? Capri ? Triumph Stag ?

Agree with the above comment!
How about a Corrado VR6? Could get a decent one for that money.
As mentioned - maybe an R32 - find a reasonable mkiv and I reckon you won't lose money on it (other than the running and maintenance, of course!).
How about a mk1 Audi S3? Pretty quick car for the money. Maybe not special enough though...
I've not looked for a while, but would £6k buy an ok Honda S2000?

I would look for a modified MK2 golf, they do come up every now and then (especially this time of year) might even be able to get one that's been painted and or had an engine conversion

Good point. Maybe even a 24v conversion amoungst the odd vr6 and 20vt cars that pop up. Always a bit scary wondering what the hell you'd be getting yourself into though!

That is true so best to try and find one you know or has a tonne of paperwork, but they are awesome if you find a real nice one. If you look up mk2vick on instagram I think he might be selling his MK2.

Often pays to keep an eye on the odd build thread, some tell a much bigger story than the paperwork that comes with the sale.
-
That's very true, also try and talk to some people that have done work on it, we recently bought an RS4 in the family and turns out we know the painter very well and he was able to tell us quite a bit about it.
-
Oooo just thought, 350z? Not sure on your tastes but I really like those.
-
I think you should buy a nice standard mk2 gti and buy my 2.8 24v lump off me and do the conversion yourself then you know it's been done right
-
Surely a proper "fun" car has to be RWD so you can do some skids :driver:
-
R32 for me
-
Audi S4 remapped are pretty close to the rs4

It might not be, no. The 130i LE is slightly more special and may rise slightly in value in the further future, but they're bit of a practical bargain for the out the box performance on a RWD platform. Won't set the world alight, but 265hp in a nicely revving straight 6pot that sounds pretty addictive.
Hard to vote against really.
I'm waiting for earlier 135i coupes to fall under 10k as the 'fun' car alongside derv' daily .

The straight 6 lump, yes that's a classic. The car it's in? No, don't think so.
