Hi guys,
My Mk5 Gti is up for sale and I am already having plenty of interest, my private plate is currently on the car and won't be included in the sale! Can anyone reccomend the easiest way to get the standard plate put back on, whilst i currently dont have another car to put the private one on?

Plate retention can be done by one day through DVLA sell the car with the plate but have a seperate letter signed to say they have no financial interest in your plate. You can put your old plate back on the vehicle, as long as you have retained your private plate.

Do it online same day:

Epic, thanks guys!
So with this, i can have my private put on retention the same day and have the original one back on the same day?

Yes, my dad did this on Monday and had a message within minutes telling him he could swap plates over. 2 days later he had the log books. DVLA have really stepped up their game as this sort of thing used to be a nightmare and take weeks
