Title: Intermittent Locking Fault
Post by: Matt81 on November 18, 2015, 09:31:33 am
Hi guys,

I've been searching for an answer to this issue but my fault seems slightly different to the answers I'm finding.

My passenger door has started not unlocking every time.  I often have to press the keyfob unlock a 2nd time (I've turned off selective locking in VCDS so is not expected behaviour).
When it does unlock first time I can hear two unlocking as if the passenger door takes longer than the rest to open.

I wonder if the lock has just become "sticky" or if this is a serious issue.  How can I test this?  What methods can I try to free up the mechanism?

I noticed a while back an intermittent fault on VCDS for the passenger side but can't remember what it said - I'll hook it up again tonight.

Faulty door lock module.

I had it on my rear passenger door. Genuine unit is pricey so I purchased one off eBay.

fitting requires removal of the entire door leaf. Can be done if you have a decent level of mechanical skill. Garage labour would be extorsionate!

Yuck,

Every time I find a fault with my car it always looks to be a big job :-(

I was hoping as the door wasn't locked shut it wouldn't be so hard but looking at that guide (thanks for that) I think I might have to take to a garage.

Is there nothing else it could be (hoping)?

Assuming it is the unit.

As times are tough and I need to keep costs down would you recommend purchasing a used VW unit or a cheap non-VW one?

Guess either option has risks.

Just to add.

The times the passenger door does not open it will ALWAYS open if I press the fob to unlock a 2nd time.
