Title: 615 mile round trip... Worth it for Stage 1?
Post by: Morgen on November 19, 2015, 01:08:56 pm
Hiya

I'm from Glasgow and have an ed30 with only a ramair intake fitted to it... I'm going to get a pre-cat delete done on the car before having it mapped but I'm now going to take the plunge and get it booked in some point after Christmas. Is it worth going to R-Tech when I can only go Stage 1 considering it's a 615 mile round trip?

Danke  :happy2:

I'd do it with DSG (if fitted) and TC tune included.

I'd also ask for at least 2 maps: 1 for gas saving to use for long trips and the stage 1 tune.

I'm making a 500 miles trip to r tech on Saturday, imho its only worth it if you don't mind driving that long. Rtech seem to be the ones to go with.

Yeap, definetly worth it.

While I was there last time (a mere 320 mile round trip for me) i met a chap who'd come down from Glasgow with his S3 for a R-Tech map. Spend many thousands on a car and mods.......

....spend £100 on petrol and £50 for a night in the sh*tty Travel lodge 2 miles away and (including the fully customised  R-Tech map)  that's still cheaper than a generic REVO/APR map.

Yep - defo worth the drive down.

The drive back up will be even more worth it with a massive smile on your face

Well worth it. They will tell you if anything needs replacing and wont map the car if its isnt safe whereas any old tuner with a laptop will load of a map and send you on your way. well worth the drive. the drive back is most fun!

Definitely worth it. I had the same mods and a 300 mile round trip and I am very happy with my choice.

Let's face it, if you don't like to drive, you're in the wrong car and gives you chance to do a proper back to back comparison.

For me, no. I would only just agree to travel 600 miles in a car to earn money.... never mind spend it.

I would. And Dave's made the point I would have made.

We're all in GTIs and Ed30s - cars built for fun, that we all love driving, don't we? What better excuse for a little road trip than this?!

I could understand if we were all say fishing enthusiasts (random example for the sake of argument) - travelling the length of the country for some fishing tackle wouldn't appeal to us in the slightest. It would be a chore. But to see this as a chore when you're a car nut would be to completely miss the point!

Take your other half or a mate, get a hotel, plan some other stuff to get in while you're down there, some shopping and a nice meal out maybe, then enjoy the drive back getting some proper enjoyment out of your investment in the remap.

Surely we're not all in this to enjoy looking at our cars sat on the drive!

Is this the same Rich having a fantastic road trip? No money for that day out.

Damn... busted!

That was different.... that was a road trip of epic nature, not 600miles up and down the M1  :innocent:

Don't shoot me down! But I'm gonna say it!

As long as you go to a reputable company not some back street cowboy, isn't a remap just a remap, there's only so many parameters that can be changed and tweaked,

Friendly discussion remember ,Iv not coming me on here to step on anyone's toes. But is there any hard evidence that the R-tech maps are superior and worth travelling the length of the country to obtain.

Hard evidence is a tricky thing to claim  as a lot of this is subjective - people hold R-Tech in high regard because they're very happy with how the map feels.

I agree, you're getting into murky waters if you say "R-Tech's maps are better" than another tuners.

However, when there are so many positive reviews going back a long long way, their maps are proven to be safe and strong, and there are thousands of happy customers, including those who have switched to R-Tech from another tuner's map, it's hard not to see them as one of the best if not the best option.

There are lots of good mappers out there, but they may be less of a known quantity than a mapper that has built their rep on the back of a proven product over the years.

I know Shark do good maps for TFSIs. Along with Unicorn, and Vince at Stealth.

I'm on an R-Tech map, after doing loads of research and asking loads of questions, and it's brilliant - I know I made the right choice. I'd always recommend them.

Loads of great TFSI tuners out there, but none offer patented TIV mapping for smoothest graphs, free traction control mapping, 5 maps with switching. . . As part of £300 price. Happy to be proven wrong if there is another well respected tuner that offers all that  :happy2:

I'd travel a day each way for a map. . . Then again I've travelled 200+ miles each way for a dyno day
