Title: pluging tyres !
Post by: gobbleplease on December 30, 2009, 12:27:37 pm
Alrighty, ive just got my monzas back from the refurb company, and fitted two new front tyres and reused the old potenzas (6mm tread). Although ive noticed that one has a screw through it at an angle ! (top of the tyre through the tread).

Are tyre plugs dodgy in any ways for hard driving ?

I've had tyre plugs occasionally with no issue or worry. As long as the screw is not through the sidewall or at some crazy angle, if it's close to vertical it shouldn't be a problem.

try and pull it out if you hear air then stick it back in and take it to get repaired.

have had two nails/screws in the tyres first one just pulled out with no problems / air leaks

second time I was on the way up to santa pod the tyre needed repairing - kwik fit £15 - it survived quite a few runs up the strip and a few thousand miles   :happy2:

james, did it fail in the end or did you just decide to buy a new tyre  ?

I've had a plug in one of my Continentals in the past. No problems whatsoever.

i fit tyres for a leaving-as mentioned if the puncture is not on the side wall, the repair willl last as lng as the tyre does with nothing affected to the performance of the tyre

the plug type or mush room patch,s are the best imo-the ones in the first pic, kwick fit use them still

but you can use patches if its only a small odject that has caused the puncture
