So my OE air intake cover on the top has unclipped and came off and lost itself on the road somewhere, It's also broken where the the boxing attaches itself to the very front of the bay because the plastic lugs has been snapped off..
Do I replace it all with the OE air intake so it's how it should be and won't move around causing the top panel of the intake to unclip itself and fall on the road.
Orrrrr.. Do i spend extra and upgrade to an induction kit like the Revo / ITG / Evoms etc as an upgrade to benefit from more cold air flow working it's magic.
Only thing with the later option is the engine is completely stock therefor I won't reap much benefit if any benefit from an induction kit until I do get it mapped in the future..

In terms of performance you will see very little for the value of a £300+ for say a revo induction kit especially if the car is not mapped. You really will just be paying for that lovely sound! It won't do the engine any harm and it will let it breath a little better. If you do plan on getting stage 1 then yes you will eventually want to get a good induction kit. Once you start to mod it is a very slippery sloap! The mod bug will bite and before you know it you have spend 3k on the car. I was like you at one point too. Said I would only get stage 1. One year on I am on stage 2+ and have spend quite a bit of money.

plenty of people picking up the Ramair induction kits lately at only £150 or so. still get that awesome sound

I picked up a ramair kit last week and fitted it this weekend. Sounds like a vacuum cleaner lol, as a result I have a carbonspeed intake and bmc filter I will be putting in the for sale section.
Like you my intake was missing when I got the car so got this to replace it.
Sounds stock and no power inrease except whatever an upgraded panel filter adds but looks lovely.

Haven't seen or read much on them but it looks like they use the same port of air access as the OE intake does rather than a foam filter going behind the headlight.. Surely this straight feed to colder air would be more beneficial due to it going straight into the induction kit rather than the induction kit soaking up the warmer air from around the engine where it would be sited behind headlights / grills etc as with the canister / foam filters?
Just interested on hearing all angles of this so i am more informed for when i make a decision and whats better than having all the knowledge :happy2:

Another thing i've picked up when looking more into this specific intake is this not so nice high pitched noise..
What makes the intake make such a horrible high pitched noise?

I've got the ramair 70mm kit and mine doesn't make that high pitched sound. Very good value for money with the ramair kit for only £150!

I have had the intake on for a little over a month I think, and it ran fine, no noticeable benefits really other than the sound (if you like that kind of thing) and some eye candy under the bonnet.
But I got mapped at the weekend by rtech and that's why I got the intake in the first place (to help the remap) and now its mapped I guess the car is making more use of it. Intakes only really benefit the car once its been mapped so the car can make use of the extra air... So I've been told :rolleye:

As you said previous you had a 70mm RAM AIR kit.. I've seen there are some variation in sizes from 70mm up to 90mm?.. Do these differ for any reason?..

If I'm honest I don't really know :grin: I went with the 70mm kit as i think it looked tidier and there were less joins in the pipe work. (70mm kit is just 2 hard pipes with 2 joins as opposed to the 90mm having I think 3 joins)
Like I said I only chose 70mm as I liked the way it looked better than the 90mm.
I think the 90mm is louder due to the larger diameter piping

Just a quick point I'm sure somebody said the standard air box is good for 350 bhp

It's quite common, some sort of weird resonance.
I don't think it's the intake itself that causes it, rather that the intake amplifies or induces the resonance. Reason I say this is that for a couple of days during the summer mine was doing the same - but with a totally standard intake. Haven't heard it since.
Also, I'm pretty sure this just affects k03 cars, but don't quote me!

Removed this neuspeed P-flo pipe and Ramair filter a couple of weeks ago as it was very loud and had some serious induction.
Was going to make a video but forgot to do that and now the weather isn't good so haven't bothered fitting this back on but may do if we have a clear warmer day.
