On the 5th of November, I made a trip to Stockport to purchase a Edition 30 GTi. I wish I had taken pics of it but I was so overly joyful lol, I got carried away and didn't take one.
The very next morning, my friend picked it up before I went to work as I wanted the vehicle slightly tinted to give that OEM look. I told him that I wanted it looking like factory tinted glass and not to go overboard lol.
So at 5:15, I arrive at his house to discover the idiot had tinted the whole car and what looked like, the fronts had also been tintied :stupid: . I didn't think much of it as I didn't want to start an argument and drove off lol. It kinda looks like a drug dealers car :sad1:

I know yes... It needs a wash lol
A week after that, I had the car washed (promise) and I discovered a few stone chips and the front lower splitter had some scrapes which were only visible if you were on the floor and looked up lol. I knew it was there, so I booked it into my friends bodyshop who did me a good mates rate and had bits and bobs done on the car.

I then did some detective work and realized that VW didn't issue the plaque numbers on these as they did on the MK4s. A couple of phone calls later and this happened

Living in the city centre terraced area of Leicester, It means I have no driveway or garage to work on my car...BUT that still doesn't stop me from working in the rain lol
I didn't have a before but, the paintwork did have some swirls and urgently needed attending to :fighting:
DONE

Looks much nicer than pre polish
I didn't take anymore pictures after that as I got carried away working on the car. It was also raining now and then, so I thought I'd get on with it

Mike you ought to add exhaust system, downpipe, hardpipe induction kit, oem g diverter valve, rs4 fuel pressure valve and autotech HPFP internals to that list lol. I'll need to book a few days off from work to get everything installed hmm

If I had a garage at home, I'd never be out of it lol. I'd probably have a home cinema in the garage with the ps4 installed lol :rolleye:

@Tfsi_Mike (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=293) is the airtech any good?

I think they're Okay. I haven't heard anything bad about them :happy2:
Im considering swapping my APR for the latest THS with the results it's getting but with santa coming soon it might have to wait till the new year.

Need to make time to go into TPS tomorrow and get the rs4 valve, oil, pickup pipe, new diverter.

Sounds like it's going to be a good build! I'll follow this one :)
Any cosmetic mods on the list?
And if your going to stage 2 or even stage 1 you should be looking at brakes and suspension upgrades too. Especially brakes!

Tbh, I don't have much planned. I only want to concentrate on the performance and braking I suppose. My mates heard what I'm upto and one of them goes 'you drive like a granny which is why you keep buying autos, you drive at 28mph everywhere you go, so why are you doing this' :signLOL:
My last golf was a mk4 1.8t which I sold in February this year on eBay. It had anti lag, launch control etc but it wasn't comfortable. My previous car was a Astra vxr and I only bought that because I had a BMW X5 which subject to an insurance write off and I promised myself that I wouldn't buy another expensive car again as I had a few niggles with it. So because of that, I wanted something comfortable and the golf mk5 has it. My vxr was so hard lol(that sounds wrong), it was back breaking and where I live, it's speed hump avenue!
Cosmetic wise, maybe no as its a limited edition golf and I'd like to keep it looking as original as possible. I'd probs put a set of depo projectors on and do the skyline rear light mod but that's about it.

X5 is an awful motor and a money pit (personal opinion)
Deffo need brakes mate even if you only push it the odd time I'm much the same as you and totally get what your saying, it's what the gti does well. Very refined smooth and comfy but if you want a play then gear down and it's like a different car!
Mines dsg and I do find myself driving like a Granny a lot haha

DSG is the best lol, I love the paddle shifts tbh. Its like when I'm bored, which is 99.9% of the time, I just leave it in D normal mode and when I feel like it, just play around with the paddles. The only thing that's weird is, the DSG box doesn't come with cruise control which on a long journey is so useful. Overall, I would describe the MK5 from a driving perspective light years ahead of the MK4. The handling has been improved and it's so refined with great comfort. Sometimes even better than my BMW as that had run flats which were so harsh!
What brakes are a bolt on? Porsche?
-
Agree with everything you've just said mate! Haha
And r32/s3 setup should do you fine if you wanna spend abit more then Cayenne/Touareg calipers with Mercedes ml discs or a ttrs setup.
-
Since when did the dsg not come with cruise control? Mine has it, and I'm sure my mates r32 does but don't quote me on that.
And subbed for this one :happy2:
-

Well mine certainly doesn't. Not sure if its a standard feature on ED30s as the two I looked at prior to purchasing mine didn't have it either.
-
Just looked on ebay and people offer the cruise control retrofit using OEM parts such as stalk, wiring loom etc
-
Maybe it was an option the buyer of my car paid extra for... I'm not sure. I just assumed it was normal and never gave it anymore thought. I know the old owner used it for long journeys so maybe they retrofitted it in the past :rolleye:

I'll be retrofitting cruise control soon too! I hate being on the motorway with my foot in one place LOL. I like to have my legs crossed LOL joke but it really is a necessity in my opinion for long motorway journeys

Nice to see a local member :happy2:. You got any pics of yours?

So far done today on my lunch break
Dropped off car to wheel refurb place
I then went into TPS and ordered 5w40 fully synthetic platinum oil, oil pickup pipe & o ring, sump sealant, rs4 fuel pressure valve, o ring for the high pressure pump, oem gasket for downpipe and a rev g diverter valve and a cam follower. As some of the parts weren't in stock, I left everything there and will pickup tomorrow.
I had then called up TSR performance in Somerset, South Wales and ordered the AUTOTECH internals for the high pressure fuel pump. After that, rang up Scoobyworld in Loughborough and ordered a set of BKR7EIX plugs. Oil filter, fuel filter and pollen filters were then ordered from ECP.
Expecting a few big parcels tomorrow :signLOL: :jumpmove:
-
NOTE TO SELF: LION GARAGE BOOKING WEDNESDAY --fit autotech internals and oil pickup pipe ready for bashing-- :signLOL:
-
Not messing about mate are you!
-
Subbing this one! Looks interesting :happy2:
A lot of mods and very quickly, hats off to you

Thanks dude :happy2:
I just want a car with silly power :signLOL:
I'm thinking, should I just hybrid the turbo? how much will I be looking at If I wanted to hybrid it?
-
Also, what brake setup is good?
I'm not looking for something too fancy, just something that will stop me safely when required :driver:
-
R32/S3 brake setup is a nice bolt on upgrade when it comes to brakes  Something I'm also considering!
I'm not massively clued up on the workings of turbo's etc but I know you can get a pleantiful amount of power from the standard k04.. I personally wouldn't spend the money on a turbo this early on to get mad power, I'd enjoy each power upgrade for a while before upgrading again :innocent: But that's just me! I'm easily pleased

They're £50 a wheel man but at the time i didnt know you could get it done cheaper
-
So today kinda didn't go to plan...
Wheels weren't ready and I wasn't prepared to travel using public transport today, so the garage lent me a set of 'loan' wheels which was only until the end of the day. I've been promised the wheels will be ready by 4pm, so looks like I'll have to leave work early!
Good news is, my intercooler and downpipe including decat arrived today. The autotech HPFP also arrived from TSR performance in Somerset (thanks guys for the super quick delivery :happy2:) and my RAMAIR filter. Only things left are hard pipe kit for intake and exhaust system.
During lunch time, I quickly popped into TPS and picked up all my bits such as the 5w40 oil, rs4 fuel pressure valve, new diverter valve, sump sealant and pick up pipe. I also had a spare few minutes so dropped all my bits over to mates house and took a few pics lol. I must say, even though the car is kind of dirty, it has a really nice shine to it :jumpmove: . I also dropped pick up pipe, oil and hpfp internals to the Lion garage as its booked in for tomorrow.

Guys I've ran into a problem with the exhaust. I've re read the listing and it's saying something about a sleeve required? Basically my downpipe goes from 3" to small on the end which I'm presuming fits the standard exhaust system. The problem is, my exhaust system is 2.75 through. What do I do now ? arghh. Is it something really small and not worth worrying about as I've been down since I've noticed it.

So not much has happened lately as I had a few problems with my autotech internals due to it being installed incorrectly.
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fss301%2Fuk-mkivs%2F0946E832-C8B4-42B1-9968-66A01487F323_zpsmvscmi3g.jpg&hash=68b7e19f1babdd9e398ee9c34a45724fbc86fd19)
I drove upto Allumy Motorsport in Nottingham, where Rob Allum (director) offered me a free oem HPFP to replace my effed up autotech internal'd pump. Whilst there, Rob worked his magic on me LOL and I ordered a brand new Loba HPFP for about £500ish quid. I also managed to get a very good deal on him installing all my hardware required for stage 2, so I left a deposit.

Meanwhile, my NGK 7 grade spark plugs turned up in the post. Thanks to Mike and scoobyworld in Loughborough for the speedy quick delivery :happy2: .

My wheels also came back and to be honest, I am very happy with the outcome. I will get the car washed on my break and take some pictures hopefully. Below are some images of the finished wheels

I am still waiting for my hard pipe kit to arrive and I'm really annoyed as its taking too long arghhh. Fingers crossed, it turns up tomorrow.

I've been working since I was 14, so I have a nice fair amount of savings. I had a 2008 BMW X5 up until September which was written off so again lol, took a nice heavy sum in the bank(although I promised myself I wouldn't touch) but yeah. I'm single 24 and literally have no expenses lol. Dad pays insurance as I work part time with him when I'm not at my 9-5.

So last night, I went over to my mates house as I was planning to install the intake. I was almost there, until I came to the remove the pipe off the turbo and I didn't have bigger pliers. What I need was water pump pliers, however being late at night almost 2, I decided to do my plugs instead. I'm so glad I did the spark plugs as the tips were slightly white on the tip (lean?). The plugs were replaced with BKR7IEX and the difference was noticed right away. I use to have slight hesitation before when trying to fire, however with the plugs replaced, the car fires immediately in a healthy way without no lumpy idle post ignition.
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fss301%2Fuk-mkivs%2FE5E53AA9-8405-4E65-8D65-B4A172863C70_zpskv6apf6z.jpg&hash=b991cb4f95eb779135e14b3b1971b0fae7b5a0c9)
One of the plugs that came out

So this morning this happened
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fss301%2Fuk-mkivs%2F9D45919C-DC53-4040-8747-635B7DE67658_zpszjxqt7ub.jpg&hash=3007d72ac22caa9a48b7f23dc005985cc16ab372)
Pre assembled the intake prior to installing on the car as I had a better idea in situ
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fss301%2Fuk-mkivs%2FBCB55F59-D85E-4EB5-BDA7-95E4DC0C0929_zpsw6akjp1w.jpg&hash=3c229a5e542c38284ecd83ae83612af116cf56cd)
The hardest bit of the intake was installed. The factory clip that comes on the turbo-intake hose was such a PITA! That was the only reason why I gave up last night as I didn't have the right pliers and it was so far back, its almost impossible to access.
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fss301%2Fuk-mkivs%2FB61E9213-7389-4BB5-ACF5-73A143802C0D_zpspb1vk6qv.jpg&hash=f3cb421ea07391a117d1eacf81fa94601901ec21)
Done

HOWEVER!
The ramair filter I have, has a rubber neck which causes it slightly bend when installed onto the last pipework. So what I did was, I left out the last pipe and installed the filter onto the last metal bit. Pros wise, it looks like its almost near the factory airduct so could be better? but, it looks a bit weird as its not fully there lol.

I think I need to either get a new plastic neck or metal neck induction kit. ITG have one but around £79!!
-
There doesnt appear to be a gap on that spark plug so i should think that was the reason for the slow start on the most part.

I think they're about £610 but I've only paid £480 as someone bought it off Alex and then decided he didn't want it. It was on for sale on the TFSI group on facebook. I'm currently looking into some TTRS setups, so I think that will be next either before remap or after.

Yeah I wasn't sure if i wanted to spend that much on a IC as I was looking at the other £300-400 options but, I didn't wana buy a cheapy cooler again and then be stuck. I hope this is a good cooler and hopefully lowers intake temperatures quite significantly. I was thinking of giving it a satin black tint to the front but not sure?

It's going to be fitted behind the AC radiator? If so, I wouldn't bother painting it. Following the ad your IC is the good version to buy. :happy2:

What make is the turbo discharge pipe? Is it an ebay purchase?
Yes it's an ebay special, however it fits perfectly fine.
-
:happy2: Thought so. Whats the quality like? Is it pretty solid? I read a review of theses ebay (china made) discharge pipes and some people found that the metal was so thin and such a poor grade that you could bend/distort the pipe quite easily. Could you send me the ebay link? Cheers

LOL the discharge pipe I bought is for a k03'd car. I tried only attaching it to a OEM intercooler hose which was also a k03 hose it'll be going back as its no use to me.

So today got everything on...well almost. Only thing left now is a few exhaust clamps as the clamps supplied are useless and my rs4 valve. Car does sound very nice with the full turbo back exhaust. The dsg thump is epic :signLOL:.

So I posted last time asking people about this PCV whistling noise I've been having and people said it was normal..which wasn't! On Friday last week, my idle became so erratic and kept fluctuating which was driving me F*CK*ng crazy! Rob at Allumy motorsport changed the PCV & gasket for a newer revision at WALA! My idle is now very smooth and it feels slightly quicker too as it's not losing any boost pressure because of the split diaphragm.

Now guys, if you buy an ebay downpipe, you will need to get the prongs shortened or else, you will get this loud banging and vibration from underneath which will make you hate the car! The prongs were long so they were touching the subframe and you can imagine the rest..

Also, the oem downpipe has a solid built in washer or a 'stop' to help the downpipe from moving forth and back underload which the aftermarket one didn't. This is what I mean...

All back to normal now! Thank god! I couldn't believe how much of a difference one small thing made.
R-Tech tomorrow, can't wait :driver:

Little victories! :)

My eBay decat doesn't move an inch. Probably because I have the revo torque arm and solid 034 motorsports bush.
Surprised they didn't take the tyres off for the "refurb".

It doesn't move anymore. The reason why mine was vibrating like mad, is because it didn't have a 'stop' like the oem one does which then causes the mouting prongs to move freely. You have some balls lol to run a solid bush! I get small tiny weeny vibrations on idle from the superpro dogbone insert but i'm kinda learning to live with it.
The refurb job is amazing though! It really is very good and although they didn't remove the tyre, the deflated in completely and when finished, they put new valves in and re-balanced it. Maybe they were trying to save time but never the less, the finish is amazing!
I think maybe during the new year, I may go gloss black on the wheels, although not entirely sure yet.
-
Be sure to post up the results later! :happy2:

Just dontnunderstand how they can properly strip and prepare the paint without taking tyres off and dipping/blasting the wheels. If you have to change tyres I wouldn't expect the finish to last. Hope it does though.

It was I think 369 because my backbox actual box is smaller than the OEM one, however I am more than happy with that figure. The map itself is very similar to the OEM map but slightly more mental lol. I had the dsg mapped at the same time too and I have to say, the car with the dsg box now is the perfect combination of power and super quick gear changes. It really is 'night and day difference' as quoted by Nik himself. As its rained today and roads are still wet, I'm going to wait until it's dry and give it all I've got :signLOL: on a private road of course :innocent:. Il show you sometime if you're free what I mean lol. I couldn't be any happier :happy2:.

Apr/revo maps are usually aggressive but die out early, where as r tech maps are linear/progressive which makes power all the way to the redline. I did want ignition cut limiter but as mine is dsg, it won't allow it.

Im manual so cant wait to get my ignition cut

Cant imagine what 370 is like! You must be happy
