It's always a concern that this can happen

That's horrible.  :surprised:

You need to have someone with you in such cases and hope the buyer doesn't bring a tribe with him as most do.

another trick is always ask for there driving license and keep hold of it in your pocket until the test drive is over.  either that or if they have a semi decent car keep hold of there keys.

Always been a fear of mine. I sold a subaru before I got my gti and I had some right characters viewing it. Territory that comes with a scooby tho  :signLOL:
That's probably the only benefit of the dealers no hassle but out of pocket.

Always, always, always  take the keys out of the ignition when swapping drivers!

A similar type of theft happened near me in the early '00's at a prestige garage when they were on a test drive with a 'customer' in a demonstrator & the salesperson and customer stopped to switch over. Customer slid across as the employee stepped out of the car, and then took off with the car...
SGT was the garage - selling Alfas, Morgans,, Lotus, Mitsubishi's, & Subaru's - think the car was a Scooby that was ultimately used in a ram raid.

Be aware when selling something tasty, that's for sure...
