Hi guys,
Putting my winter wheels on today and noticed my rear shocks plastic casing rubber has rotted??
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fgg83%2Ftanner23_bucket%2F8AEE1357-EC72-449C-8578-1655B83793B9.jpg&hash=dd47510ee81adc32bcc41ffd9b1bf0c0043dff66)
They are the originals and have been paired with h&r springs for the past 5 yrs/50k
Does the rubber and casing serve a purpose or am I looking at needing replacements??
Any advice appreciated! Cheers
Jon

Yeah, the boots are going to keep the majority of the crap out as with any boot designed system; I'd replace sooner rather than later, especially in winter. :happy2:

I thought as much! Daft question - are you able to just fit new boots or am I looking at replacement shocks?

That's the Bump Stops that have perished. They're £12-20 a pair on Ebay. Part Numbers are here for a 2007 GTI (you can select your model/year at the top):-
www.partscats.info/volkswagen/en/?i=cat_vag_models&brand=vw&number=1714&set=1728&ein=2007&f=474&hauptgr=1234567890&hg=5&grf=051100409&bf=51102&hgug=511&ug=11&parent_id=2346208
There are two different sizes so you'd have to check that. As you have to remove the Rear Top Mounts etc you may as well look at replacing the other bits and perhaps the Dampers.

Thank you, best save some Christmas cash for getting these sorted!
