I'm looking to have cruise control fitted and would like to know what part number stalk is needed as there seem.to be a few different ones.
I have a 55 plate 06 registered gti mk5

Hi I have just order this for my car the part number I used was 1k0953513g. But you also need to make sure your steering wheel control module can be used with CC.

I see I need to remove the lower cowling and check the serial no. lol

Good luck, hopefully we both don't have to fit the extra wire looks a pain...

I've got 55 plate 06 registered gti so hoping we don't have to fit the extra cable but if I do then I'd be happy if the module is suitable :laugh:

I have a 2006 also, I have VCDS also but never used it yet, I don't under stand the whole programming the control module, I don't know how you work out the codes. I will have to do some reading.

Is yours a 55 reg mine is **55 *** but registered as 06 on the log book.
I'm okay with the vcds but it's just about reading the post a good few times before it sinks in like the link you sent me :laugh: I read it at lest three times and now you've sent me the link I've re read it and now it's sunk in :smiley:

Mines 56, I ordered a new control module as I have some Highline dials coming from the states, but am 99% sure cc will work with with my current module as I have midline dials fitted at the moment.
It looks pretty straight forward to take everything apart just need the correct tools and the right part, the eBay seller sent me the wrong stalk... :fighting:

I think the ones that work are the ones with trip computer mileage fuel to empty clocks as ive got. It's the wire that will be the pain in the rear.
I'll check mine in a couple of days and report back as I have all the tools necessary to carry out the job.
I think the steering spline is at work so may have trouble getting that as I'm off sick atm.

Yep so does mine so am sure the wire will be in place for both of us, I order a spline tool for eBay was £3.50, and I grab a torque wrench from a friend.

Is this a retro fit or has your original one died?
Just for reference, when mine went a few years ago, it was just the switch within the stalk that died... You can replace this without removing the stalk / wheel.... Just split it with your fingers, disconnect the module and wire; swap old for new, worked like a charm for me. :happy2:

I bought a genuine VW cruise control stalk from China on eBay. Lasted a few months before it broke. Lesson learnt.

I upgraded my steering wheel and it came with a new stalk.

Managed to fit this today, hardest part removing the steering wheel control module. To remove the air bag I found a tip online turn on your front facing camera on smart phone and use that to find the airbag clip. The coding was easy once I took 5 min and thought about it. Oh and I had the wire already installed on my car (module to bulk head) so easy going took about 40 min in total.

Did you manage to get a part number off your module?. just a though as if mine is a 55 reg 06 registered then it should be the same as yours and then I don't have to find a wire for it?.

No worries, do you have access to vcds? Cause you will need it to code in cruise control. If you need a hand shout me am sure we can get it sorted.
