Post by: jakejay92 on December 07, 2015, 06:57:13 pm
Hi

New to the forum so sorry if im in the wrong place.

I was just wondering if any one could help, i have a vw golf gt sport tsi 170 bhp its a 57 plate with 60,000 on the clock.

The problem is a ticking noise coming from the engine, theres no loss off power or no changes to the way it drives, hqve looked around and people are kist saying its a nornal noise the car makes.

if anyone could help, id appreciate it. Thanks alot

doesn't sound right.

where's the noise coming from in the bay?

can you get a daytime video up.

could be cam chain tensioner rattling.

Ill get a better video soon mate.

Im not exactly sure, im paranoid because its just had the head gasket skimmed, and a new coil pack, new head bolts quite abit done to it.

It sounds like its coming from round the oil cap area

That's quite a lot of work carried out on it bud.

How did this problem start?, you're driving the car before head gasket went and now replaced with the head skimmed.
How was the car sounding before this?.

Could be hydraulic tappets chattering away.
Take oil cap off but leave the hole kind of covered and have a listen but watch the oil as it will spit at you if you fully remove the cap.
Maybe take it back to where it had the work done and ask them or is it one of those ones?, we did the job and it's not our fault?.

Yeah before i had all the work done the noise was there just not as loud, maybe im just noticing it more because i know its had work done to it haa.

i ive had a listen with the oil cap off and still cant be certain thats were the noise is coming from, could it be the cam chain? Theres no eml light on and the car drives spot on, its just for peace of mind really.

My mate has an ed30 and says his makes the same noise, i got it done at halfords autocentre under warranty, they were terrible so id probably take it somewhere else

It may well just be how it is as my gti sounds just like that with the bonnet open and engine cover off  they all sound sh*te tbh. my audi tt with 149k on the clock didn't even sound like my 70k gti now that's saying something hahaha golf's aren't great for a quiet engine that's for certain.

Chain needs to be checked on vcds tbh.
