Title: Kevbo's GT TDI
Post by: kevbo_TDI on December 10, 2015, 10:38:15 pm
Been lurking for a while thought I'd post this up as a progress and for me to keep track of how far it goes

Bought this off a mate before id even passed my test

Finally passed my test in mid September and just been enjoying it since

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fff62%2FIIIkevboIII%2FC23BC36C-0640-4626-A01D-38E71AA75E70_11.jpg&hash=bb8c8e57d6459e5194ba00dc94492110658536cc)

It's had a lot of work carried out to it as he planned on keeping it but a trip to the USA made him lazy and he wanted an automatic

As you can see it's had a Jetta front put on, it's also got a r32 rear bumper and edition 30 interior seats (all done by previous owner)

So it's now time for me to put my stamp on it and make some changes that I have planned and already purchased just gotta make things happen now

What you guys think ???  :happy2:

Soooo today mostly saw me change this dinosaur

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fff62%2FIIIkevboIII%2FAC3AB75C-9254-4E23-8454-56AD204AE2B8.jpg&hash=8226f88b8a3d0038fc6edb72fc9dd3202b2ce21f)

Out for this

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fff62%2FIIIkevboIII%2FD968508F-FFF7-4DB7-83EF-14D048EBF6C4.jpg&hash=01b0ffcb498290b02f0af1a510c26910a29cd5ed)

I do realise it is a cheap Chinese copy but for the price I can't complain as it does what I need as listening to CDs was really starting to get to me

I also decided I would trail fit my GTI skirts as one of them has a crack (underneath and wanted to see if it was visible)

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fff62%2FIIIkevboIII%2F07622CEF-288E-49D0-8566-5F1C21A4D5FF.jpg&hash=78d63aa87cbccfc45ecf0dbbb14d895a96d878aa)

Question is do I leave as they are or get them colour coded .... Thoughts would be welcome ???

So yeah all of that I between showers pretty pleased with myself  :happy2:

As the front and rear bumpers are colour coded I'd say get the skirts done too?

I quite like the side skirts in a gloss black but I suppose as your Jetta front end hasn't got that it would look odd?

Well tbh I don't like the chrome on the front and was looking into Rline fogs and also gettin the grill wrapped black as the purchase of new wheels has gone down the line of black sooooo decisions

Quick little update ..... Finished work sat in car started engine, instantly could smell electrical burning shut off engine and was doing the air sniff test we all seem to do  :signLOL:

Turns out a 5 pence piece decided to jump out of my coin tray and find its way down into the lighter port  :jumping: .....

Managed to fish it out turned engine back on to find my check oil light on and two blown lights (dipped right hand side/ parking left hand side) .... Is this because I shorted something ?

Changed out the fuse after a quick trip to halfords so that all works again .... But still had warning lights all over my dash sooooo a quick trip to a garage/family friend got them cleared only for him to tell me my sensors will need changing out ???

He said I'll need two coolant temp sensors (news to me I thought there was only one)

Anyways just after a bit of advice really am I right in thinking the part number I need is 06A919501A and will I need two of these or is it a different sensor ?? Really confused .... Want to get these niggling problems sorted before its MOT just for piece of mind

Cheers

It's normally the one in the bottom where you topped it up that goes faulty

Avoid the 5p piece trick by fitting a 12v socket with a cap

I'm just going to get them both replaced as advised by my mechanic, thank you

Avoid the 5p piece trick by fitting a 12v socket with a cap

Normally I have my iPhone charger socket or my dashboard camera charger fitted but I just so happened to take them both out when I cleaned the car only for this to happen .....

I suppose you live and learn

Nice Golf

Cheers mate just read your build thread .... Seems like you've not had much luck recently .....

Glad it's on the mend tho  :happy2:

Good purchase, especially with the eddy seats  :happy2:

Cheers man, yeah it was one of the reasons I decided to do the purchase  :happy2:

Just a quick question regarding the 5p dropping into the lighter socket

From what I've gathered it blew fuses as my right main beam stopped working I figured it was a bulb so got a replacement and replaced F16 on the fuse board yet nothing ???

I have dipped just no main beam going to check I replaced the bulb correctly later but would it have blown something else or ???

Any help would be amazing as I'm starting to run out of ideas ... :sad1:

Right today's job was get rid of the white wormed rear boot handle badge

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fff62%2FIIIkevboIII%2F3336E0C6-1485-4497-AD4C-01B3B983747E.jpg&hash=8fd19065a80aa5216a16a0f5223e0352ede4c164)

Picked up a 3D badge for pennies off fleabay

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fff62%2FIIIkevboIII%2F8DC7B270-1B17-458B-9CD3-91BEE643A802.jpg&hash=dc1b02c2588a044ab8a2bf5bf2131b78cf1b8524)

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fff62%2FIIIkevboIII%2FFA991E4B-268E-4F04-B0CF-753BC959186F.jpg&hash=cafebdfffcaa15e30d755e2fcd77158153ef7c7a)

Any one else that has done this notice how much gunk and dirt was held around the actual hole on the boot lid not good !!! I also noticed a slight rust pool as if some water has managed to get inside around the actual boot lock area ??? Any ideas ??

Next job on the list is my GTI skirts to go on and get the new wheels rubbered up as last night I hit a curb whilst pulling over as my child was screaming her head off in the back  :scared:

Pleased with the outcome tho  :happy2:
