Title: Daily runner?
Post by: Ifti on January 02, 2010, 11:42:59 am
Just wondering how many of you guys are like me and use you GTI as a daily car??

I use mine to get to work and back every day, and then to go out on weekends, since its my only car. So approx 300 miles a week. Its costing me about £50 a week, but less hassle then taking public transport, which would double my time getting to and from work!

How many of you guys use your car as a daily runner like me, or do you only bring it out on days where it wont rain etc?! lol

Mines a daily runner too. I will be getting a company vehicle when I complete my apprenticeship. Just in time to upgrade my car to a GTI or maybe Ed30. Then I will be able to keep that for weekends which I am looking forward to! I dont like to drive mine to work now and park on public car parks! My car is only a 1.6 FSI as well!  :signLOL: :ashamed: :happy2:

Daily driver here too, I bought the GTI to enjoy it.. not to lock it up.  Only a 10 mile commute at the moment but I might be moving house soon which will mean ~100 miles per day, will have to see what the petrol costs are like if we go ahead with he move.

Not quite a daily driver, but I do use it regularly. When I get the option I let the wife's car take the miles.

....

Sort of daily driver except that I don't work so the car might do 40 miles one week and 640 the next. Regularly irregular.

I actually feel withdrawal symptoms if I don't drive her for a few days and start looking for excuses. In 78k miles in 4.5 years I have never ever felt tired of driving her. Best car I've ever owned.

Got mine out of the garage last night for the first time in nearly four weeks. Mother Nature showed her displeasure at this act by making it snow on it (first snow we've had in Devon) then added a bit of frost to the snow, so the inside of the windscreen freeze up too. I only used the darn thing because the locks were frozen on my 12 year old daily driver, in retrospect I'd have been better off sorting the locks out on the old Ibiza as it de-frosts better than the 12 years newer Golf GTI! Feckin' screen blower on the Golf is useless at -4 deg.

I use my K1 every day during the winter. In summer i,m generally on 2 wheels, either my sportsbikes or pedalling to work 20 miles a day.

I use the car as a daily runner, though I don't need it as much as I did before (virtually not at all) so I now have to take the car out on a weekly run because, like RR, I get withdrawal symptoms.

Still enjoy it after nearly 90k. Its is more than a daily driver, its also my wifes taxi. (Me driving her).

I take it out in the rain as well because last time I checked, it doesn't melt.

I use mine every day for an 80 mile commute and then to and from the rugby at the weekends covering approx. 1000 miles every 2 weeks. Mine has just hit 100,000 miles which isnt ideal from a resale point as I will be looking to sell at the end of 2010.
The interior is looking good but the monza II's are battered and wormed but no point in getting them done now until warmer times!

Daily driver for me, doing about 20k miles a year.  I'm usually cursing it every week when I fill it up but as soon as I get back in the driving seat I'm glad it's a daily driver.  No point keeping it garaged or getting a cheap daily runner as it won't be as fun or comfortable.  I work hard to keep my car on the road so I want to get the most out of it that I can :happy2:

Mine's a daily runner, I'll use it whenever I can.  Any excuse, as VW once said!  Unfortunately it lives on the streets.  I wish I had a garage...I hate the scraping!

I have another car for the supermarket shop, the girlfriend's Ka.  Not the greatest long distance car but its like a go kart round town!

i used to have a show winning 1962 beetle that cost me £55k to achieve in total when finished, and a very mint 1 owner Karmann MK1 golf GTI drop top valued at just under £5k. they came out of the garage for shows maybe once or twice a year if it was sunny.

lost them both to a house fire, neither was insured as they were in a secure garage under the house so didnt see the need as they were impossible to steal

both destroyed. yes really.

now if i own it i drive it, lesson learnt

(to save the thread tangenting off i'll add that i lost the whole contents of the house and the house itself too and although insured the insurance company found a loophole so i was left with nothing other than the clothes i stood up in. thats all i intend to discuss on the matter)

if youve got it, enjoy it, you could be dead tomorrow and someone else will enjoy it instead
