Title: just bought an Erisin for my mk5 gti
Post by: Bigjimknickers on December 23, 2015, 05:59:17 pm
http://www.erisin.com/erisin-es2698v-vw-car-dvd-sat-nav-passat-golf-touran-caddy-jetta-seat_p565.html

went for this model, I did want the 8" screen but my wife prefers the buttons on the bottom as that's where they are now, tbh I agree with her!
really excited, the current VW unit is just a CD player & now I have Spotify premium I no longer buy the latest Cds, so hopefully this will be as awesome as everone elses on here!

Are you able to put up a video when you've installed? I was looking at getting the exact same head unit (some of the others have old versions of Android and are non quad core).  :happy2:

Mine seems fine mate. I can't complain so far. It links with my phone fine and I can use it as a hands free kits and that works spot on too. Definitely can't complain for £155

Nice!
I went for an android OS as I really want Spotify & Waze on the unit, hopefully I'll get mine in time to fit it tomorrow, if I do I'll post pics of the install & a review.
I struggled to find a decent review on my particular unit, but the older Android 4.2.2 got some excellent reviews on here. :happy2:

Looks awesome, how is the fitment? Will it play MP3s from a memory card or Bluetooth stream music from and iPhone/ iPod?

I have an 05 golf with older canbus, would not still be a straight swap or do I need to program it to the car :-/.

Thanks
Title: Re: just bought an Erisin for my mk5 gti
Post by: Daveyboy on December 30, 2015, 05:21:52 pm
I didn't have to program mine. Yeah I can stream music and take calls through the Bluetooth it's got an sd card slot too so I'd think you could play music that way. It also comes with a USB lead that plugs into the back so I'd imagine you could plug a memory stick into that for music
The fitment is as good as factory

I figured with a two year warrenty it's worth a punt, a fair few guys on here have erisin units now & happy with them, it's this or £350+ for a used kenwood 525.

Post by: cookmort on January 01, 2016, 05:03:04 pm
Yeah fair point dude. What year is your golf? am I right in thinking there are two different canbus versions, one up to 2007 and one after.

Really supper tempted to take the punt to be honest.

Mines a Mk5, 2006.
Spoke to DHL
(Dick heads limited) & they say it might be in the warehouse, there not sure, the joke is it's about a 40 minute journey to where I bought the bloody thing from! Wish I'd asked to pick it up now.

Is it necessary replace the CAN gateway?? I heard that if you do not change it, the battery will discharge
Title: Re: just bought an Erisin for my mk5 gti
Post by: cookmort on January 02, 2016, 10:27:15 am
From what I've seen its a straight swap, (least I hope it will be). I've had an rns315 in for a week and that caused serious battery drain problems even with an 07 CAN gateway.

@Daveyboy (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=14319) does the sat nav and climate control functions work?.
Title: Re: just bought an Erisin for my mk5 gti
Post by: Daveyboy on January 02, 2016, 05:02:28 pm
The sat nav does but the climate control function doesn't. I don't know weather that's just because my car is a pre 2007 car or not
Title: Re: just bought an Erisin for my mk5 gti
Post by: r5gtt on January 02, 2016, 07:00:14 pm
That's fair enough as I'd prefer climate as is or it just complicates things more.

Thanks

Has anyone bought from Erisin direct? The later Android 4.4 units only seem to be available on there (not eBay)?

Spec looks much better than the older Windows units and at £177 it seems a bargain! Especially as it's dual core and has more RAM.

Here's a link; http://www.erisin.com/erisin-es9405a-8-hd-android-442-car-dvd-gps-vw-passat-golf-touran-caddy-jetta-seat_p521.html?page=2&number_of_uploads=0

Check my link on page 1 I bought from Erisin direct, not turned up yet so I'm now claiming my money back, not good to deal with, no communication at all from them, DHL won't talk to me either now, so I escalated it to a claim today. Not good, imagine claiming on warrenty??? Forget it!!

I'll just take a refund now, sod the radio.

Shame, it looks like a good unit.
Did you order from http://erisin.kancart.com (http://erisin.kancart.com)?

There are some supposed UK based sellers on eBay, but their prices are a bit higher.

Yep, bought it from them, they have a warehouse in southall, so it was shipped locally, & it still got lost!
Very difficult to deal with.

Got it from eBay,
for what its worth, I prefer eBay over directly buying from site.
They can avoid you directly, eBay they cant, and if they do. You can open a case against them and eBay will step in and make decisions.
So that gives me piece of mind.

yup. plug and play for me.
just had to get a different harness to get the leds to work on the HU. Which they provided, however id say, ask this before hand so you dont have to wait for the new one. They didnt charge me anything for it.

Hope this helps

Well after many hours of reading about head units & weighing up between a kenwood dnx & a pioneer I finally went for another erisin:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/ulk/itm/271950719109
This one has a larger screen but is still the latest 4.4.4 android os.
Full review soon! :happy2:

I think you skimmed passed this post of mine.
I did mention that a different harness is needed to get the LED's to work. As the one you got with the HU didnt have a cable for illumination, which is needed for the lights to work. Ask the seller for it, and once you have it, you'll have to piggy back of an illumination cable of another circuit. i.e. cig/climate (its the grey wire)

Well I had an hour to waste while my little one was at rainbows, sooo, figured I'd risk whacking in the radio!
Took my new removal tools & my torx bits with me along with the radio & sat there in the car park looking pretty dodgy I must say!!
Lol!
Removed old radio, then came up a few minor problems, where to put the GPS puck in the mk5?
How to route the usb cable for the iPod/iPhone?
& finally the connection for the dual fakra seemed to only let one in there, couldn't squeeze them both in the HU port?
Anyway, put it all back for now to test & get these questions answered,
BUT.
I am VERY impressed so far, it's exceeding my expectations totally, really impressed.

1) GPS puck can go anywhere you want(bare in mind reception) (I'd recommend the glove box or underneath the dash tray)
2) Where are you wanting the iPhone cable to run to?
3) I didnt have a fakra so I only used one, working fine so far.

Hope it helps

Edit. When I asked a seller about iPod they said. Just looking again and they have iPod.

Bigjim which one did you get and does display albums and playlists on the head unit?

I've put the puck under the tray for now, I'll tape it there tomorrow.
I want to run the usb socket cable to the glove box, then connect from the socket to my iPhone 6/5s (just for charging, will use Spotify for music mainly).
Radio needs both fakras imo, sounds poo! Need some type of adapter?

Yep, can bus decoder is built into the unit so it's as simple as plug in the locking plug into the back of the unit, nothing was loose, must be a dodgy unit.
I've told them I'm returning it, I've fitted it twice now, it's definitely not my harness at fault as my OE radio has never missed a beat and is now back in & fine.
