Title: Exhausts!?
Post by: ED30Girl on January 13, 2016, 02:46:11 pm
Finally got my Edition 30 last year and she is completely standard. Very first thing i want to get done is a new exhaust as shes just too quite!! but as i'm not planning on doing many mods ( for now ) i'm stuck on whether to get a full turbo back system or just a cat back?? I know the best option would be to get the full system but what are the real benefits? Also can't decide if to get 200 cell motorsport cat or de cat?? I've not got any problems when it comes to MOT but is there any differences except cost?

Go for a full turbo back exhaust as it's the downpipe you get the power gains from mainly , go for a BCS 3" turbo back sport system with a 200 cell sport cat (massive fines can be had for having no cat present if spot checked), there's a group buy on at the minute on the forum

Go with what greygti said. You won't be dissapointed. Without a 200cell sports cat i think it would be a tad too loud aswell so worth getting.

If its dsg the dsg fart sounds immense.

Hi,

I've got a full BCS turbo back decat system that I've just taken off my car, if you send me your email address I'll send you some picture.
It's a full 3" turbo back system covered less than 15000 miles and is under 2 years old, it still looks like new.

I was originally looking at a milltek or cobra but after having a look on here so many people are buying from BCS so i feel its almost a must to buy from them!

Only worry is that i don't know anyone with a powervalve exhaust and i've looked on youtube and they do sound amazing when you hit boost but are they really as quiet as standard when driving off boost? Ill be gutted if i spend that much and it doesn't sound much louder? Anybody got any decent videos??

Nice one Gaz! its abbienoble@hotmail.co.uk

Do you do an option to make it louder off boost @Powervalve Nige (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=331)

The Powervalve system is amazing. Ask @rtechniki (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=1870) which systems suffer from back pressure issues.

Sorry i missed your call yesterday Nige! I'll try and call you this afternoon when i finish work.

Really struggling to decide as ive never heard one in person and even though the videos are brilliant its still not the same. Worrying if i get a powervalve that its not going to be loud enough off boost but even though i do want it pretty loud i have my nephews in the car quite often so it can't be stupid loud

I find mine loud enough off boost and loud enough on boost. I've ridden/heard GTIs with louder exhausts (APR RSC, custom, etc.) and I wouldn't like to have that noise level all the time and even on boost.

I'll need my hearing when I'm older. :signLOL:

I have a BCS Powervalve turbo back exhaust Prestige system with 200 cell cat and wrapped DP. You can go for the Sport system that has a smaller silencer, so it's a bit louder. :happy2:

Anybody Derbyshire/Nottingham way with a powervalve system let me know!  :happy2:

If you are going decat, then the cheap eBay ones more than suffice. If going sport cat, I'd make sure I got a Powervalve. You'd want r-tech to do a specific stage 1 map with decat factored in too.  :happy2:

I'm not that far from Notts if you ever wanted to hear my setup, but probably someone local to you too.

Please share advice rather than trying to sell.  A sale may then come from good advice given.

If you have de-cat downpipe, will that definitely fail the MOT? Only thing putting me off having the de-cat downpipe.

I WANT LOUD NOISE AND FLAMES

Mmm I did think that but thought I'd be best buying new, how much are you looking for one off eBay?

Just ask around in your area and you'll soon find someone at a garage that will pass it! I don't get how they get away with it tbh because everyone in our area all go to the same garage so it's pretty obvious what they do but I'm not complaining!  :notworthy:

Also did you start off with a Powervalve system with a sports cat and a smaller silencer? It's so difficult when I've never heard one and I just can't make up my mind!

If your going decate then definitely go for the Ebay ones. i picked mine up for just over 100. they usually vary from 120 upwards. well worth it

Yes. Had the Powervalve cat back then purchased a brand new eBay 3" decat downpipe and had that fitted. Don't use the POS gasket that comes with the eBay DP.

Thanks for that! Do you think having a smaller silencer makes a big difference and is it worth it ?
