This morning driving to work, i lost all power to the car, only revs to 1500-2000 rpm, no idea whats caused it - RAC on route.
Any Suggestions?
Car; 2005 MK5 GTI DSG 88k miles.

Seems like the car is in limp-mode.
MIL on? If you restart the engine does it have the same behavior?
Run a VCDS scan and start from there.
-
Yep, restart and its still there. no lights on once the car is running.
-
With the engine at idle, remove the oil dipstick and listen for any changes (rough idle).
If there is no change then your PCV might need replacing.
But these are all suppositions, the proper way to start is to do a VCDS test.
Keep up posted & good luck.

I suspect it could be the PCV - although reading into it it may be the mechtonic unit :scared:
I'll see what the RAC say, if not then I'm getting it flat bedded to a VW specialist.
Thanks for your help!

It won't be the PCV causing that
Will it rev any higher in neutral or park? Will the car actually move or try to pull off under its own power? Are there any lights flashing on the dash, does the gear indication display the correct gear?
Impossible to say for sure, certainly not without a lot more info and a much better description. Diagnostics needed, hopefully the RAC man will at least get you some fault codes and get you home or to a place of repair, as I doubt he'll be fixing it at the roadside
Does sound Gearbox related though

My money would be on the throttle body, same thing happened to my brothers ED30
-
Well, after seeing the contents of the gearbox oil over where I managed to ditch it, figured it wasn't going to be good news; after getting it on the ramp at a VW specialist it seems that somehow - the driveshaft has come away from the gearbox, don't know the extent of the damage yet, but will know more tomorrow lunchtime...
-
Seems the driveshaft has popped out of the gearbox then punched a hole in the side of it while it was out.
£4800 to fix.
-
Sad times.
Any idea how it may have popped out of the box?.
Buy another gti for that price.
I'm selling mine.72k miles
No seriously that's an extortionate price for a fix mate.
Get a second hand one and a local indy to fit it?.
-
Get a used box and shaft from a breaker and have it fitted.
-
Yeah, thinking that may be another route to go down, i have found a nice Golf GTD though!
-
£5K to fix that! Ouch!
Never heard of that happening. Diff rivets letting go and smashing a hole through the casing, yeah, but not that! The inner CV is attached to the gearbox flange with 6 bolts and there's a snap-ring on the flange that stops it coming out of the box laterally. Just can't see how on earth it would 'pop out'. I think something else failed, or those 6 bolts might have been loose from previous work?

Thats what they thought may have happened, but I've only had teh car 9 months, so need to look through the history.
