Hi,
I fitted a Delphi RCD-510 last night, removing my RCD300. Everything works fine, steering controls, iPhone connectivity. However, one gripe is that on the highline, the song name and artist appears but it thinks the input is 'AUX' instead of iPod/iPhone.
Very minor gripe, but if its simply coding then I'll sort it out.
I also have the following fault code:
01305 - Databus for Infotainment
004 - No Signal/Communication
There is also one for communication to the instrument cluster.
When I go into the coding for the radio, the long coding helper is unavailable and there is no info on what each byte does.

You need a newer CAN gateway to correct that error. I think if you don't disconnect your battery you'll have battery drain soon.
You also need a MDI adaptor to connect correctly an Ipod/Iphone.
:happy2:

Hi bud,
CAN Gateway was changed to the newest one to avoid battery drain; version AD I believe, manufactured in 2010.
This is a Delphi unit made for the Asian market, the main reason I bought it was to avoid buying the MDI, as it has a USB controller built in.
Everything works fine, it charges my iPhone 6s, plays music from it, can see all my playlists on Apple Music (but not Spotify, but I was pretty much expecting this). Steering wheel pauses, skips tracks, changes volume.
The only thing is that it says 'Aux' instead of iPod on the highline. Very pedantic, I know

I've only seen that error when the CAN was too old. Yours is good AFAIK. Let's wait if someone else knows what's the issue, or if there's any issue.
I have a similar error in the mk6 climatronic panel because the panel isn't compatible with the mk5 instruments cluster. It's just a VCDS error that doesn't do any harm.

Yes seems like a harmless error. Could it be the fact that the RCD is too new?
It states that it was manufactured in 2015?

I don't know well how RCD-510 are, just the general stuff. I just have RNS-510, a P and a R.
Maybe someone else knows the answer.

I can't help with the fault but have you noticed much difference in sound quality between the RCD300?
-
Marginally better. Nothing to write home about really. But then, I was never found wanting with the RCD300.
Might be something to do with the fact it's not coded in properly? (hence the fault codes)
You thinking of upgrading?
-
Thats odd, my 510 sounds so much better than the original 300 but mine is a late Blaupunkt model which might make the difference.
-
Perhaps, yes.
Though, I thought the RCD300 before was reasonable. I had a MK5 TDI before with a 10 speaker set up, and the one in the GTI is better, even with 8 speakers.
One thing of note, however, is that I was using my iPhone 6s through Aux on the RCD300, and now it's a digital connection to the RCD510. Which means that the DAC (digital to audio conversion) now happens in the radio, and not my iPhone. The iPhone is known to have a very good DAC.
In other words, I'm not comparing apples to apples. I'll give it a good listen on the way home.
Oh and I think these fault codes are to be expected, as noted by another forum member's install:

Mine is a 10 speaker GTi (05) and I found the 300 terrible - perhaps when they dropped to your 8 speaker setup they improved the head unit ......

Perhaps mate. Just been in the car now, and the sound is improved.
