Title: Retrofiting mfsw steering wheel
Post by: hugo on January 28, 2016, 01:32:26 am
Hi there, need some advise.
I'm Retrofiting mfsw to my 06 gti non mfsw, the question is what steering module do I need? Is it the one ending with CH? Or is this just to upgrade to a mk6 mfsw?
Thanks in advance

CH covers you for both mk5 and mk6 wheels so is the best all rounder to get.
Other highline modules are fine also but with the negligible price difference these days, you may as well get CH.

Can I just say that the alignment of the wheel wasn't refitted like how it was removed as it was a spline or two out of place and the marks didnt match up when refitting. just my observation Raz

Good video though  :happy2:

I think its the camera angle

That was the first time I retrofitted a steering.

Must be the camera angle  at least you know how too and it's a piece of cake really thanks to you people can fit their own ones in. programming is debatable  :signLOL:

I still want to fit the cruise in mine but laziness kicks in.

Another little tip that I like to use is to put a marker pen line on the head of the bolt each time it had been re-tightened. A simple way of keeping track how many times it has been off  :happy2:

Thanks

Have you enabled it in the engine module too?

Is it a genuine vcds? Clones don't always work.

It's a clone one  :ashamed:

I've also tried to activate it in coding byte 6 bit 0 but it's saying coding rejected. blast  :sad1:

It could may be that then. I had a clone that wouldn't activate cruise control. I bought a genuine one and had no problems.

Any member with vcds near you?

Hi update on my retrofit!
I changed over the control module CH one, and also mf botton airbag wire.
I got the 3 yellow lights and I tried to code it and nothing is working, even the horn dosent work! Do I need a different slip ring?
Will try to code it again tomorrow.
I have s 06 gti manual, high line display. Rns510 also fitted

What code have you entered in? I think all GTI's had a type 2 slip ring so you should be ok. Sounds like a coding issue

Is it a mk5 wheel with a loom part number starting 1K0, or a mk6 wheel with a 5K0 loom?

It's a mk5 steering wheel. I'll try again tomorrow as got some free time to try and code it

I have 0001534 and I changed it to 0002534 but didn't accept
Then I tried 0001734 it accepted but nothing changed

Can you confirm the part number of the airbag loom you fitted?
Or did this come with a used wheel?
Title: Re: Retrofiting mfsw steering wheel
Post by: hugo on February 08, 2016, 10:55:02 pm
Hi the air bag loom is 1k 0971584c
I bought it separate

Post by: skard on February 08, 2016, 11:25:36 pm
Good that is the correct loom anyway.

That coding looks weird for mk5 16-steering, what was your original coding? Have you followed a coding guide for a mk6 wheel as that is different.
Is your car a manual and do you have cruise control? Try 0002022

What was the part number of your old steering module? Sometimes the slipring needs changed too

I hope it's just the coding!
Well the standard code is 0001534.
The car is manual, no cruise control.
The steering wheel is the standard one that came with the car
I just adapted the mf buttons to the wheel.
The original sw control module I think it ends in c but I'm not sure need to
Check tomorrow ( it's in the garage )
