Title: Low milage mk4 R32 or Low milage mk5 R32.... What's a better investment?
Post by: oisinc on February 01, 2016, 02:31:56 am
So which one would be a better buy with the intention of storing for a few years?
I'll of course use it every now and then. :)

I've two pirellis atm.
Think I'll keep one and sell the other.
Id really like an R32 though. I'm leaning towards a mk4.
It'd be awesome to have one for a few years then sell it on at a profit or at least not at a loss.
Wondering which one would most like achieve that..
I see low milage mk4's making silly money atm (well asking anyway)

Neither. Very low mileage examples pop up for sale at stupidly high prices occasionally but whether you'd make a profit on one is debatable. Start putting any miles on them and the prices nosedive. If you want an R32 why not just buy a decent, average mileage one, drive it for a year or so then move it on.

the mk4 r32 being the original is the one thats going to be the money maker. but it'll take more than a few years to become collectable

As a mk5 R32, my biased opinion doesn't count  :P however the mk5 has a better chassis, and 'set the bar' for Golfs again  :happy2:

I'd disagree, it was the original yes but it was terrible so they're not sought after.

I'd go mk5 R32 and in blue  :happy2:

Because he appears to be more interested in investing than driving.

The MK4 was horrible dynamically and both of them just have nasty power deliveries.  Everything below 3000rpm in one little lump, then nothing from then on. Really disappointing cars to drive.  MK5 is just sooooo much better than the MK4 though and with DSG, it does make the weird engine a little nicer.

There was a tidy low mileage red mk4 R32 for sale last week. If I was buying a mk4 I'd definitely be looking for a red one but they don't come up for sale very often.

For investment I'd try and find a clean MK5 one in White with buckets.

The MK4 will definitely be the sought after one in the future, despite the MK5 being a fundermentally better car. I have driven both and the snappy throttle response of the MK4 makes it feel more lively than it actually is plus the boomy exhaust gets a bit tiresome after a while.

The MK5 is the all round better car minus the slightly downgraded build quality.
