Title: Windscreen peeling?
Post by: raz469 on February 04, 2016, 10:20:25 pm
I noticed this today, is it water getting in and need a new gasket? Or some glue starting to deteriorate? Car aint been jetwashed recently :ashamed: (https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fuploads.tapatalk-cdn.com%2F20160204%2Fa76646f867cb7f9fe791a662aee8efce.jpg&hash=396714b2ade54fe867fe90f122b31b2c0a087aba)(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fuploads.tapatalk-cdn.com%2F20160204%2F3216497b2a9c2fc5099e24b2ffde14e8.jpg&hash=01a9369dcdc3e7dff19afb694b431f277c34712f)

Probably heat mixed with the cold making the glass peel. In any case better to pay the excess and get a new one fitted imho.

It's de-lamination. They'll probably do it without 'hitting a rock'.
Has it been replaced in the past? If so, is it still under warranty?

What you're seeing is a defect known as snowflaking. It's on the weakest part of the glass and water is seeping in to cause the glass to separate from the PVB interlayer.

Banging in a fraudulent claim to pay for a replacement means you'll more than likely end up with a cheap copy screen and with no real guarantee on how well it will be fitted (it can be a lottery when it comes to using the insurance company's nominated supplier).

Motor insurance is ever rising and although a lot of them will say there's no impact on NCD, there will be a clawback somewhere (usually on renewal).
