Title: Fan coming on
Post by: Markweir12 on February 08, 2016, 09:41:29 pm
Hi,

My fan is coming on as soon as I fire my gti up.

It stays on then goes off for a minute then back on again.

Any ideas?

Coolant temp switch failing. Lives in the left hand side below the cylinder head in the coolant flange above gearbox but on the engine or course Grey sensor. or could be green.

Is that for definite? I replaced my sensor and the gauge is working fine now but I'd say 1 in every 50 start ups the fan will start with ignition for maybe 2 seconds and then turn off...

Possible but not a defo. I have this in my gt tdi. I am going to replace the fans. Small fan does not come on big one fires up if car stood still for 30secs. Enough power to draw leaves in.......
You can do a fan test in VCDS.

its quite a common fault if you snoop about in the forum

Bought a gti a couple of weeks ago and mine seems to have the same issue as this one. Replacement fans seem to be the only option
