Would replacing a 2005 rcd300 with a 2007 rcd300 cause a battery drain? Reason I ask is cause Ive just had to replace the battery!

Mate, I'd find the stereo fuse and with a multi meter check to see if your getting any current drain off the fuse as I had this after fitting an after market stereo to my old car. not saying yours is aftermarket but is a possibility.
