Just wandering how common it is for ED30s to have xenons? I'm on the lookout for one and originally wanted a high spec one with xenons but looking around I've seen a few that look good but hardly any seem to have xenons - I don't mind waiting a bit for a good spec but don't want to waste my time if hardly any have them

I looked for ages when I was buying one and sacrificed them for a lower milage example. At the end of the day they are only lights, they may look better but you could always add depo lights with hids in the future.
About 2 in 6 ed30s had projectors so about a third I'm guessing.

I'm in the same dilemma, I can pick up a high miler with perfect spec or a low miler not as good spec

What spec are you after exactly?

Red, xenons, fsh, any extras over that are a bonus

I had the same problem then out of nowhere the spec i wanted popped up on here. just keep looking mate.

I'm thinking of selling mine, but it's not red!

The very first ED30 I looked at (and duly bought) had xenons, 3 dr, sun roof, winter pack thingy, RNS510, Highline display and some other stuff. I assumed they all came with xenons like the R32! I guess I got lucky

Don't forget EVERYTHING can be retro fitted. One of the joys of the Mk5/Mk6 platform.

Mine was 3dr, red, fsh and came with xenons and was the 1st ED30 I looked at :happy2:
They are nic indeed but as others say you can fit this in after so I would be looking for the important things like condition, FSH etc first

Thats why I'm not too fussed about MFSW and sat nav but I thought retro fitting Xenons was expensive and a nightmare?
-
Ive got a couple really nice Pirellis, with Xenons, FSH, 5 door, Black, low low milage. (26k & 34k)
Not exactly what youre looking for but they do have Xenons.. :driver:
you can even retro fit a nice coat of red paint if you want. :ashamed:

They are expensive and probably not straight forward to fit as mine were fitted from factory but still probably a lot less expensive that sacrificing on quality of car to get them and then something happens to a mechanical part that was not looked after

Fitting Xenons is a simple plug and play with correct loom. Making the Bi-Xenon function is simple plug and play with 1 wire added. Quick flick in VCDS and you're rolling.
If you want the auto levelling then yes that's more involved but the forum has a few retro fit gurus so still not a biggy.

Cut the shape out and your half way there :signLOL:

Thanks for the advice guys, think I'll just stick to looking for one that's been well looked after regardless of spec :)

Got any more info on that? The factory lights are just xenon (dipped) + halogen (main) aren't they? How do you get proper bi-xenons without the correct lenses and bulbs etc?

@Pudding (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=10733)
I bought OEM xenons, had them fitted and they are just plug and play with correct loom, add a wire, flick a switch in VCDS and et voila....Bi-Xenons.
Here you go, scroll down to the part that says Getting true bi-xenon function......
