Title: How long does a stock exhaust last?
Post by: Bigjimknickers on February 12, 2016, 10:13:43 am
Whilst checking my car last week for a pre cat delete, I noticed the exhaust is possibly still the OE from the factory, so getting on for 10 years old this year, it's pretty rusty but not blowing, what's the life expectancy of these?

One positive is...

Great excuse for a BCS!! :driver:

Every car is different. If you live near the sea your car parts will rust quicker. Many things affect it. My old mk4 golf was 14 years old and still on original exhaust when I sold it.

We regularly take systems off - and they all vary in condition again usually based on where the car has spent the majority of its life ie by the sea for example... or how many miles - usually low mileage ones rot from the inside out due to the mild sulphuric acid build up. Generally the weak point is where the inlet pipe meets the back box (weld fractures around the parent metal).

Mine is original factory fitted all the way through
08 Plate and 175k - slightly corroded but no too bad considering

Will be fitting a full BCS system when the standard item gives up
