Title: Tapping noise
Post by: Vwgtiking on February 18, 2016, 02:05:23 pm
Upon slow speeds 10-15mph steering to the right, not on any sort of lock, I get this tapping/light knocking noise. It speeds up with the vehicle speed. At faster speeds need a good full lock to get the noise.

Soon as I straighten up it disappears. Also nothing when turning left.

Any ideas what it might be?

Now I hear a light tapping sound now and then while driving straight. Are they related?

VW said the offside front cv boot has split. But it doesn't make sense as noise is from near side and when I turn right?? Unless they made a mistake?

Probably useless info but years ago during a wheel bearing diagnosis i was told the noise transfers.....
So nearside noise normally tends to be the offside at fault!
Odd i know but thats what they told me at the garage i used at the time

Both outer CV joints were shot. £170 later all fixed on a car that may be sold tomorrow. Looking at more diesels tomorrow to.
