Title: 1.6fsi timing chain
Post by: vw/golf/1.6/fsi/sport/mkv on February 18, 2016, 11:08:16 pm
Hi troops, new to the forum and looking for some advice. Just bought a 05 mk5 1.6 fsi sport. Seen from previous posts that it has a timing chain and not a belt. Booked it in for a service at a good german car specialist. When I got it back i noticed the noise thats been mentioned in loads of previous posts. When at idle with the bonnet open it sounds a bit rough. Is this normal or should it be quiet. Can hear the noise in the cab on start up but only for a few seconds. The mechanics put 15w30 oil in it. Is this the recommended oil for this chain driven engine? Would a noisey chain cause issues like power loss or risk of the chain jumping?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!

Hi mate I have a 1.4 GT sport which also has the timing chain.
I have generally used 5-30w or 5-40w oil so not really sure about 15-30w the 15 sounds slightly high, are you sure it's 15 as opposed to 5?
