Title: DSG gear selector panel
Post by: fazi123 on February 21, 2016, 08:12:44 pm
Hi guys,

I had a go at fitting my Armrest MDI kit but gave up after taking a few of the screws off. Unfortunately I scratched the panel around the gear selector.

Does anybody have a part number / how to to replace it? Or even a vinyl similar to this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Black-Carbon-Fiber-Gear-Panel-Sticker-DSG-Decal-For-VW-Golf-MK6-GTI-R20-AT-VINYL-/301840567012?hash=item4647198ae4:g:Kd4AAOSwrklVYvru

Thanks,
Faz

Indeed, except I can't find one which has the cutouts to fit the UK shifter i.e. the gear labelling on the right hand side...:(

You need to do what I did when I wanted a carbon dash display and ask the seller to make you one. he'll realise there's a market for RHD and make a few extra to check out the market. I'd be selling those vinyl for a tenner at the least. :stupid:

part number is 1k2713203 or a variation depending on models 1k2713203quszYou have to buy the whole gear surround inc leather gaiter if getting from a dealership or you can pick the rest of the black off of your one and plastidip it

@fazi123 (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=9745) it's pretty easy to do the MDI install I did it on my GTI. Once you have the head unit section sorted, if you take the front ashtray out you can feed the wire down the back and run it along the side of the centre console.

Once you get to where the MDI sits you can feed it in underneath. And the rest of the wire you can tuck it under the centre console. All this without taking any of the rest of the armrest etc out. Now I've done it is kick myself if I had to pay someone to do it once I realised how easy it is  :happy2:

Thanks for the words of advice Shoayb! If only I was half as technical as you I'd tackle it myself. I just don't want to scratch and mess up the rest of my interior.

If you were close to me I would have done it for you it's that simple! Have another bash at it. If your going to be covering your DSG gear panel anyway it will be part of your learning curve :)

I used Arlon Matt Black vinyl

It's as close to a perfect match as you're gonna get  :happy2:

Have a look at my build thread page 16

Just realised I wrote the vinyl spec on the post in my build thread  :ashamed:

Anyway it's called.... Arlon 4600LX PerformancePlus Matt Black Vinyl.

That's an amazing job by monte. :happy2:

I went on ebay and bought a R20 DSG gear knob with a frame. I then sold the gear knob to a friend who had a mk5 GTI and wanted to upgrade it to red stitching, as he already had the steering wheel and parking brake lever like that.
