What would you buy if money was no object?
I'm considering a DNX525DAB due to
Bluetooth audio and phone calls
iPod connectivity
Sat nav
Anything else I should consider?

That's the one I would pick also

I'd have the DNX 525dab too but only if the iPod integration was better than on my Kenwood DDX 4015DAB - which is terrible.

This is in my bookmark to buy folder...wishful folder.

I've got one in my TDi, excellent unit, you need to get the full Alpine fitting kit and you need full FIS to make full use of it.
Oh, and there's one for sale on Ebay, not mine I may add...

RNS510 with Bluetooth streaming. Add a Fiscon unit too.
That way I'd get full MFSW and highline compatibility without taking my phone out of my pocket.
This setup would probably cost around £700.
-
Agreed, can't get better than a 510 personally.
-
This is what I have :D
Have played with the Kenwood, It's a techy unit, but it just doesn't look right.
It doesn't belong in the Golf
full integration with the 3D colour clocks is superb!

I've had a 510 for a few years and the only thing that lets it down for me is the long start-up time before it's fully operational, and it lagginess when switching between radio and media modes.
Maybe this is a firmware-specific problem though
-
I have had an RNS510 with a Fiscon and MDI, yes you can't beat that OEM feel and it was a nice setup.
However, I also have a Zenec e-2014m (or check the more padded out NC-2015 as it is a better comparison) and these have everything you want built in, and are very OEM...much more than the Kenwood DNX types I have seen up close.
I would say the only place where the RNS510 trumps it is the HDD.
-
I've already ruled out the RNS units as they only output 20w, which to be frank is very disappointing. They also have inbuilt bass reduction at high volumes, not really what I'm after. Obviously look good tho

The RNS 510 sound isn't great but it's a lot better than the standard RCD300 unit.

Very nice unit. I watched one on eBay for £350, but it had no GPS map on it, kinda put me off.

Just saw this. I couldn't get on with the Kenwood, I had a DNX520. Things that annoyed me where the slow start up, slow response to touch screen, looks weren't great and the lights didn't work with the light switch but it could tell when the lights were on to switch to night mode. iPod cable was terrible too.
I moved on to an RNS510. Much better.
I believe a lot of this was addressed in the 525 so hope I'm not P-ing on your chips, just saying what I experienced.
The kenwood will be easily to use on a custom system I'd imagine.
