Title: Mk7 GTI or GTD
Post by: prp74 on February 27, 2016, 12:53:16 pm
Thinking of changing my mk4 GTi (keeping the mk5 ) for either a mk7 GTi or a gtd. Have a budget of £19k, and just looking to get feedback from owners. Anything to look for or recommend. I know with £19k there's a lot of other cars out there, but really liking the mk7. Also I don't too many miles, but have been told the latest diesels are OK for short runs and now again long runs.

Any feedback appreciated  :happy2:

If you don't do a lot of miles you're better off with a petrol engine. I'd go for the GTI Performance pack.

Diesel particles filters can take a while till they give problems for doing short runs.

Driven the MK7 GTD quite a bit. It's a nice car, but not really a patch on a GTI.

Picked up a mk7 GTI with the performance pack and the following options from a mature owner who covered just over 8000 miles and has placed an order for a Golf R - This 64 year old has about 6 cars for him (inc 400 SL, 4 series conv, 6 series etc). It was lovely to meet a car enthusiast.

Will get some pics up. Thanks guys for the advise.

Great spec! I'm sure you'll love it. Get a stage 1 remap later, the brakes can cope with the added power.

Thanks mate. Might look into that. But won't the remap be reseted if serviced by vw?  Thanks

Not unless the VW dealer updates the ECU map. It's not something done regularly.

During the warranty period it's better to switch to the factory map before driving to the dealer to do the periodic service.

2 totally different cars. The only reason I would buy the GTD is if I was looking to save penny's on fuel. I don't know who told you about short journeys in diesels, but when I worked for Audi we were obliged to ask customers questions about mileage/journey type if they came with a question like yours and advise them against a diesel because of the DPF possibly becoming an issue.

Got some pics of the car after a wash. Sorry not the best photo's. The MK7 is so quite and the ride quality is excellent compared to the MK5 and the DSG is fantastic. Still love driving the mk5 and it never fails to put a smile on my face.

Good choice and a fine looking car. I too have the DSG PP and a recent trip from S Yorks to Dumfries gave back a very nice 39.9 MPG. Have fun.
