Title: Manual GTI - 1st Gear Notchy/Differcult to engage.
Post by: daz_rt_04 on February 28, 2016, 05:14:57 pm
Hi guys,

New to VAG ownership and have encountered my 1st issue with my Mk5 Gti.

Basically all gears inc reverse are smooth in action but 1st gear can be differcult to get into, from either cold or hot and from neutral up or 2nd down.. its still awkward.

This can usually be rectified with a bit of a shove or double clutching but its bloody annoying.

Clutch is smooth and has a good level of bite. Am I correct in thinking it may be the linkages? Adjustment?

Cheers in advance.

Mine was the same. Charged the gearbox oil, with genuine VAG gear. Problem solved. Silky smooth.

Thanks for the replies chaps.

Its quite strange as if I push the lever further over than you normally would, it slots into 1st fine.

Will follow the video and see how it goes!  :drinking:
