Title: Another car valuation
Post by: shoaybmakda on March 07, 2016, 05:22:44 pm
Hi all

Just wondering if someone can help - someone has approached me to buy my car and I don't know what I would value it at. I've been contemplating moving to a mk6 GTI or maybe even a 7R but love my mk5 to bits and now someone has approached me I'm in two minds if I should sell. He's offered me £5,500 but I think it's worth more..what are your thoughts? Spec of the car is below

Candy white 07 plate GTI 5 door
DSG gearbox
122k miles
Full VW service history and a recent service done just last month
Recent cambelt change and DSG oil changed over the past year
PCV, diverter valve and cam follower all replaced,
2 owners from new

Extras:
Xenon headlights
Electric Sunroof
Electric heated power folding mirrors
RNS510
MDI kit installed
Full ED30 body kit and colour coded
Genuine pescaras
Rear parking sensors
Drivers electric seat
US spec smoothed front grill
GTI mats
Alarm fitted
Dark cherry red hazard switch (must add 10k onto the car I'm sure!! Lol)
Highline display

That's all I can think of at the moment. Pictures available on my build thread

Let me know your thoughts please if I'm being unreasonable with wanting more?

Thanks

I know the mileage is a tad over average but combined with good service history it wouldn't be a factor. It looks tidy from your build. Id be aiming for 6 - 6.5k ish if I was you.

Thanks what I thought @RetroRaz (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=6494)

@jayha11 (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=11641) I had in mind £6250 but he seems adamant that ED30s go for that much so mines worth less. Even sent me a picture of a ED30 at that price but no mentions of price, cat C,D etc. I said find me a straight ED30 at £6250 and I'll buy it myself. Needless to say he gave up after I disagreed to go as low as £5500

There certainly weren't any eddys around 6-7k even advertised when I was hunting a year ago!

You don't seem that keen to sell. So don't worry too much about what a keen buyer is trying to convince you it's worth. If you get an offer that really gets your attention, then you can consider selling.

If you were desperate to sell it'd be a different game!

To be fair I love the car to bits even though it's done a fair few miles it still drives spot on. I'm tempted by a mk6 GTI and if a decent offer did come along It may persuade me to sell. But for now it seems the mk5 is here to stay :)

I'd say anything over £6000 would be heading towards what a car dealer would sell at. I'd think no more than £6000 on a private sale.

They can be a hard car to value as the prices of them are all over but I've seen more than a few high spec gti's selling for under £6000 lately, we've also just had a new 16 plate come out which will de-value cars again as always.

Most mk5s are scratching 10+ years old now and over the past month it's starting to show price wise.

^^^ very similar spec to yours, 40k miles less than yours £5995ono and unsold

^^^ White gti, lower spec but 30k miles less than yours and a car dealer £6495.

If that had done the same miles as yours with the same spec then he'd have that up at £6495 I reckon

That's a interesting post Ricky and yeah your right about it being hard to call. I valued mine based on looking on auto trader and the cheapest white golf I found was this:

http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201603041635038/usedcars/postcode/LE21HQ/radius/1500/make/volkswagen/model/golf/sort/atcustom/page/1

It's a private seller and he's asking £6250 for something which looks pretty much bog standard. The next ones at £7,500 done 85k with a miltek etc fitted.

I guess it all depends what someone's willing to pay. One persons cheap will be another persons expensive so can be subjective. But I think all in all most people so far I've spoken to feel it's worth a bit more than £5500 which gives me a bit of comfort that I was right to say no to that offer.

It's £6250 but it's done 30,000 miles less than yours so add your extra 30k miles then your extras to make up for the higher miles and it's roughly the same price £6000

(I guarantee that was advertised at £6250 with a view to taking £6000)

Yeah that's roughly what I was aiming for starting at £6250 and settling for around £6k.
