Bought VC 1.4, but I've no idea how to install it, the instructions keep referring to some kind of dongle?
Anybody else struggled to install vag commander?
Should I return it and buy a later version?

What are you trying to do with it? You know that on the later Mk5 Golfs its next to useless and cannot be used for things such as key coding, clock changes etc. yeah?

Retrieve my code to swap to highline clocks.

Have you run vag commander as admin?

You need the drivers installed for the lead, serial to USB. Look in your device manager if it needs attention. Are they not on the CD? May have to manually install them.
And the cable should be plugged in before running the software.
If you get in, a word of advice, don't go crazy snooping about other modules as it isn't a good setup for that. Just try grab your SKC and get a dump of your IMMO.

All I want to do is get my SKC and that's it, don't want to cause myself any problems!
As its a mini cd I've had to copy onto usb stick and load from that.
I can't even get the software to install let alone find drivers for the cable?
Shall I screen shot the files I have on usb stick?

Your antivirus has probably killed the executable file.
You need to turn it off, then copy it again. Should be a program called vwtester perhaps.
If asking for a dongle then the drivers are probably still needing installed.
