Title: Aftermarket head unit and ECU issues
Post by: GTS_1985 on March 14, 2016, 10:07:24 am
Hi all,

Newbie here so apologies if it has been covered but I can't find it anywhere.

I have a mark 5 gti that current has a stage 1 remap installed. I have since looked into replacing the stock head unit with a satnav touch screen unit but have been told by a sales rep at a tuning firm that it will mess with the remap when I try to install it! So am I stuck with the oem unit as I don't want to mess up the remap.

Cheers

I thought it was a weird thing to say, but can't see why he'd bullsh1t! So fitting a DAB will all be sound? Wouldn't I have to recode things?

The new headunit won't mess your ECU map. At worst you'll need to update the CAN Gateway or buy a Polar BT/Battery module to prevent battery drain from newer generation radios. Any 2008 and late 2007 Golf should be fully compatible with the new radios. You'll need to code the radio if it came from a car with a different sound system from yours.

I know that aftermarket radios put 12v to different pin on the OBD socket and diagnostic tool, for example VCDS, can burn, but this one heard first time  :signLOL:
