hi guys
not sure if this is the right place - i wanted to get my precat delete done..ive read in a few places that rtech can do it for me? is this correct? if so anyone have any idea how much it is?
or is this something i can go to an exhaust place and just get them to knock it out?
thanks

Any garage physically CAN do it for you - R-Tech probably won't as they just do the mapping side of things.
-
The unit next to R-Tech will do it. Called Dynodaze :happy2:
-
I didn't realise you wanted to get this done Shoayb. You still thinking about the BCS system?
-
@rashg60 (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=11930) not sure yet..maybe when funds are available. Currently the pending arrival of the newborn is taking priority!
@GrayMK5GTI (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=2907) thanks - rtech actually emailed me back after I put this post up and said the same thing! :happy2:
-
I wouldn't bother for stage 1
-
I thought Rtech suggest doing the pre cat delete even for a stage 1?
When I spoke Dynodaze they said until they see the car they wouldn't commit to costings. Could be 1-4 hrs job they say....
Alex at AKS has quoted £100.
-
For 200quid you can buy a decat downpipe. :happy2:
-
Gains simply aren't worth £100. Its the sort of job you would do yourself for free and it be worth it for an hour or so of your time, but as Rich said - extra £100 gets you a decat, then you can have Stage 2 mapping which will result in a much more worthwhile gain
-
Just do it yourself

@Lewo (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=14490) i spoke to dynodaze and he said the same cost depending on how its fitted to the car but starting cost is £125 and could rise.
@white91 (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=13025) @Dan_FR (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=9513) no idea how to do it myself otherwise i would..have seen a how to online but i don't think i have the technical know how to get it without breaking some sort of a sensor.. might have to follow what @rich83 (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=709) said and hunt a decat downpipe instead (which I'm assuming will fit fine to stock?)
-
It's only a few bolts, I struggled on axle stands, but with ramp it's easy. I'd try some local exhaust places first

Where abouts are you mate surely there is someone on here close by that has done it themselves that would give you a lift for an hour to do it
-
I'm based in Leicester @Dan_77 (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=15560) I'll be getting it up on a ramp next weekend hopefully. Just hope I don't damage any sensors or anything of the like.
-
Just take your time mate , its straight forward enough, the only tricky bit is the bolts holding the downpipe on as there awkward to get to and space is limited, I unclipped the wire on the top sensor and removed it once the downpipe was off as its a lot easier to do that way
-
Thanks mate - just trying to find a how to guide online so I have something to follow. If I can find that then I'll be fine I'm sure
-
I just watched this video as it shows the removal and refit on the down pipe, I removed my engine cover the night before and put plenty of penetrating oil on the four nuts holding the downpipe on as they hadn't been touched in ten years so where tight. I had to use a small breaker bar to get them loose after that just used a normal ratchet.
The clamps on the sleeve that goes over the join between the down pipe and rear exhaust had rusted solid so I cut them off and put a couple of 63mm exhaust clamps from Halfords on there where about a quid each
The top sensor I unclipped and removed it when the pipe was off like in the video as its a lot easier and put it back in once the downpipe was back on, knocking the pre cat out takes about 30 seconds, just keep cleaning it out and tip the pipe out to make sure any doesn't go down pipe into main cat.

Was it this video by any chance?

yeah mate sorry I meant to put the link in haha that's the video I watched before I did mine
-
Mate did mine today, all went fine no drama with seized bolts. :jumpmove:
-
I managed mine on ramps, no seized bolts - apart from the sleeve from down pipe to rear exhaust - get a replacement one of these in advance as you will have to cut it off if original.
Downpipe to turbo bolts were just awkward to get at, not too tight.
New genuine exhaust gasket so you dont have to do it again and jobs a good un.
